2004 RX330 key cracked..
I have an RX330 and the plastic key fob cracked, the electronics are fine. Of course, this is the second time. I know the metal blade portion is embedded into the plastic and is not removable.
I got to thinking about the way this key is put together, and it seems to me that a plastic replacement part with a metal reinforcement that the metal key blade can be screwed into would make sense. Why is it that this is not manufactured? On ebay, I see the standard plastic with uncut key and i see the switch-blade style with uncut key, but I don't see any other designs that would allow reuse of the cut key blade.
Does anybody know if anything exists that would allow the cut blade and electronics to be reused? It would be so much easier!
Also, are those switch-blade style keys less likely to crack? the standard key is so flimsy at the blade/fob joint.

Club Lexus Vendor Eternity Key makes one that won't break. I don't know about pricing. Here is a link:

I would not recommend to buy cheap Ebay frames.
They are not so strong and brake between the metal blade and plastic rear cover.
I broke three Ebay key frames with my previous Toyota vehicle, each last about a year.
It had the same setup inside the key as Rx, remote locking unit and immobilizer chip. You can easily move the locking unit but you will need to cut out the immobilizer chip and reglue it into new key.
To do it right, you need just good new blank key and locksmith to copy the blade.
