Remote Start for 2007 RX350
Hello guys,
I really want to get a remote starter installed on our 07 RX350 before it gets even more cold. I really like this system:
http://www.viper.com/car/remotestart/product/4205v/viper-value-2-way-remote-start-system
It has a long range and it's a 2-way unit which is nice because you don't have to guess if the car was started or not.
However, I really want the factory keyfob to keep working. Does anyone know if it's possible to keep the factory keyfob working when the vehicle is remote started?
Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Awesome! May I ask how you know it? Do you have one installed? Also, do I have to tell the installer to do anything extra for this to work?
In my mind, all you would need to do is to tell the module that deals with the keyfobs that the vehicle is not running and the key is not in. Thanks!

I apologize, I read your question wrong the first time. I am actually not sure if it will work while the remote start is active. I am pretty sure it won't since you can't use the remote when the key is in the ignition. But there is a chance that the key sense is what disables the remote and not the ignition itself. If that's the case, then it will work with remote start active.
I do know that if you decide to go with a system that has security and remote start you will be able to activate the factory alarm using the viper remote. You will also still be able to control the power door and the remote windows with the viper remote. The viper systems also have the programming in place to add automatic window roll-up when locking the car. I have thought about going this route and I would also just use the valet key with the viper remote as it would annoy me to have two remotes on the same key ring.

I did some research on getting a remote starter installed and several thing became apparent; get it done professionally, use a unit they are familiar with, make sure they have installed one on an RX, make sure they solder the connections rather than crimp.
There are many different models, discus with the installer what you expect from it. Good luck and report back!

Got it! I was also thinking to just get the valet + viper keyfob going because I wouldn't want two remotes but ideally I could get just the viper 1-button remote starter + my original remotes working...
Just amazes me that the installers can't figure this out even if you are willing to pay them before they do the install...

So I tried calling all the high-end auto electronics shops in the area (even the ones that local Lexus dealer recommends) and they all say the same thing, can't be done. They say it even about the cars that I had it installed on and the factory remotes worked. Seems like they just want to sell to customers who won't care about that and if it works, hey, it's an added bonus!
