Hey Lexusguy and DLJ

I am also from NJ about 45 mins from NYC. I live in morris county.
Anyway, I am torn between 4 cars:

RX330
Toyota Runner 03
Infinity FX-45
Lexus GX470

Each of these cars are unique and have pros and cons in their own way.

The RX is silky smooth, easy to drive almost auto like. Wife prefers this car more than anything.

4runner -test drove the V8. Wow, wonderful torque curve and smooth all the way through. I am biased towards the sport version with X-reas suspension. I priced out a V6 sport edition with the NAV option and it comes to $31k - not bad.

Infinity FX-45 power power power is the only reason I would get this. It is short on space but the 0-60 in 6.0 seconds ...ouch. Got to hand it to infinity for making this car. Comes close to my GS400 speeds. Priced with all option including NAV comes to $53K

Lexus GX470- Well definately the most luxiourous of the bunch. Comes with the 7 seat and a awesome NAV service. No HID's a bit dissappointing. The rear end looks like a GM vechicle from behind. Swing gate is more of a nuisance than the lift up gate. Also tops out over 50k. But for those of you who own your own business this qualifies for that special tax loophole. Read this article for more info: http://www.texomamanagement.com/Nov2002.htm
The GX is not listed but this article came out prior the GX release. So some of the newer 03 vehicles are not listed but the GX does qualify.

I posed this question to a fellow co-worker. He replied with something very interesting "kind of scary", but very possible reality. What he said was this:
If there was a nuclear or dirty bomb explosion in NYC the first thing to come to mind is to pack the family and haul ***. For me I would want to go away from the city and go west. The main roads and highways will be jammed and the only way to get around would be offroading it.
So the question is which car would you feel more comfortable and up to the task.

Without a doubt it would be the 4-runner!!!! This is definately the all terrain go anywhere vehicle in any condition.

My choice went recently to an 03 Limited 4Runner over another RX300/RX330 or GX470. For slightly over $36,000 I have every option except for navigation. This is a bargain for a vehicle that has the technology of uphill assist, downhill assist,X-Reas suspension and a very sophisticated 4 wheel drive system. The 4Runner provided the compromise of luxury on road vs off road driveability like the GX470. The RX just does not have the same off road capability. The Lexus name, who cares?? Toyota has just as good of a reputation in long term and short term reliability. That's what I care about. The sales department and service dept. at my local Toyota dealership is every bit as good as my Lexus dealer was. The 4Runner has a higher residual value than my RX did after 3 years. As far as the "elite" attitude some Lexus owners have I'm over that after driving Porsche's over the last 20 years and in some opinions downgrading to an SC430.

I also like the 4-Runner, as far as I am concern, reliability of a Toyota & Lexus should be the same. The power-train of a V8 in Toyota is the same ones they use in Lexus GX470. I can careless about the leather seat and navigation etc... but I can save about $20,000.
