Passenger Airbag Sensor
I have noticed recently that the passenger airbag indicator light sometimes reads airbag off when my 100 lb spouse is in the seat. When I sit in the seat the light indicates that the airbag is on. . The dealer said that I would have to bring the vehicle in to have the sensor recalibrated. Over the last few days I have noticed that the indicator will show airbag on when my spouse is in the seat but usually it shows airbag off. Has anyone had this situation occur in their RX35o?

Don't mess with airbags or their sensors, there is so much that can go bad here. We love to work on our vehicles, but this is one of those items that should be worked on only by the dealership.

I agree with Rainbird. I've had that same issue and was told by the tech that when the "Airbag off" indicator is on the airbag will not deploy in an accident. For your spouses safety, get this corrected by Lexus ASAP.

I believe the passenger front airbag on/off is set by weight of the occupant, with 100lbs being the threshold. The idea is that if someone is too light (e.g. a child), the airbag will do more harm to them than if the airbag did not deploy. Thus, it turns the airbag off.
I've had the same situation happen to me when I had someone about 100lbs in the passenger seat. Some days it would be off, and others it would be on. I think it may just be best to let the car do it's thing, as I have a hard time believing they set the 100lb threshold arbitrarily.
