The RX is Solid when Rear-ended at 60mph
#16
My wife and son were rear-ended in our X3, it is difficult to recognize what kind of vehicle it is after the accident. Both of them walked away from the accident, were shaken up quite a bit! I had some quality issues with the Bimmer, so our replacement is going to be an RX330. I am glad to see the RX is a solid vehicle in similar accidents.

Two weeks after I bought my '08 RX out of the lease, I was sitting at a light and was hit in the rear by a guy doing 45 (texting). He was in a Saturn and went up under my car, destroying my underside and his engine compartment. Farmers' estimator quoted $ 7,000 for repairs. After the body shop had run up $ 6,000 to take it all apart, they decided it should be totalled. By then, Farmers decided that they would rebuild it. Total bill - $ 27,000. My car sat in pieces for 6 months and was eventually rebuilt by hand with all new parts. The body shop even leased the jigs from Lexus to rebuild the frame. That was 2 years ago and it still drives better than a new car. As for the car in an accident, he hit me HARD, but I had no whiplash. And for you used car buyers, CarFax doesn't show ANYTHING even though there was $ 27,000 worth of work. Buyer beware.

Glad you all came out OK. There have been some other threads on here, as well as a local news story about an RX that was hit by a train, that convinced me that the Rx is the safest car I have ever owned.
