Mellowing the buzzer
I happened to find the rear liftgate warning buzzer tonight while replacing some old incandescent bulbs with new LEDs. My first thought was, How can I make that thing quieter? My brain gives Toyota credit for making impressively loud and noticable buzzers, but my ears want to rip the thing out and stomp it to pieces.
Anyway. Since I don't want to silence it entirely, I'm thinking a wad of cotton and some duct tape should do it. Has anyone else found a way to get this thing down to a useful but less aggressive volume?

Those things are designed to put out a certain level of sound and cannot be adjusted. Your idea of muffling your "warning buzzer of doom" is probably your only option.
