Hi fellow Lexus owners
A question regarding installing an after market stereo. Want to get the standard stereo out and have been quoted NZ $1500 by an installer which seems steep to me.
These guys are pros and have done good work for me before, but I am just hoping for some feedback
Heres the background
I have a 2010 Sony cd, radio , bluetooth etc, booster amp and grunty woofer that I own.

Installer said it needs the adapter face plate, a device to interface new gear with steering wheel, and some other parts to enable to after market system to work 100 % in the Lexus.
Reckons installing aftermarket stereos in to Lexus can be tricky

Yes I want it to work 100% but has anyone had this done previously and what sort of costs/advice do you have.

NZ$1496 = US$1,153.72 (approx. depending on exchange rate)

Because of the expense of shipping items to NZ, you will have to do your own research as to whether the Metra kit is available in your area, from whom and for how much. We do have a number of members here from Australia who might be able to chime in with suggestions.

Also, you did not state which stereo system you have in your RX and if you have NAV or not. Does come into play. You can go to the Metra web site to look at what is available for your configuration.

have been around a few more installers in NZ and it seems the old adage - "do it right do it once" applies.

Just put in a new alpine radio with bluetooth and usb. alpine 143cdbt.
Got the radio and all the necessary elecrtrical wiring harness adapters from crutchfiel. I highly recommend that you buy your stuff from crutchfield. great products and great support..

One big issue.. making the original climate control work.

My lexus is a 2005 with the nav screen and dvd entertainment screen.

I had a big problem with splicing in the small resistor. spent a bunch of time and phone calls to crutchfield.

This was the problem. even though i spliced in the resistor between the yellow and brown wires that are on the 12 pin connector coming from the cars wiring harness it did not
work at first. very frustrating.

So. we finally figured it out. I had to solder the resistor to the thin wires in order to get enough contact. .
Also.. NOTE. once the resistor is attached. you will leave the plug hanging . It does not need to be plugged into anything. Wierd ...but it works.
originally the plug went into the stock radio. but with a new radio there is no place to plug it into. Just solder the resistor and it will allow the
climate control to work.

I hope this helps folks out there.

the other metra adaptors are plug and play. steering wheel controls and the interface for the amplifier works seamlessly. no problems.

So where does the climate control information display?

it displays on the screen as normal when you push the climate button.

i purchased my stereo from Cruthfield as well. With the purchase they included all necessary hardware including face plate that looks like original equipment and small transistor needed for climate control, sterring wheel control plug,and detailed instructions on the removal and replacement with new receiver. I've taken mine out twice ( because I forgot to hook up my Bluetooth). It literally takes 5 minutes. Pry the bottom trim plate around the gear shifter with a small screw driver and then the little plate around the cigarette lighter. There are 4 10mm bolts holding the stereo in. As far as the little transistor goes there is an easy way to attach it. Instead of splicing into the 2 wires and soldering just insert the ends of the transistor into the two pins on the plug. Cruthfield gives the detailed instructions on which # wires and which pins they belong to. It turned out to be a simple install. I will attempt to attach the instruction sheet Crutchfield sent me but your better off just contacting them. If you are not familiar with then that are the best audio place to ever deal with as far as equipment,customer service,as well as the best technical support. You can literally do your own install for about $125. And it's very simple once you get started.just remember to disconnect your negative battery cable first. Also, when you reconnect your cable you have to reset your power windows for the auto go down from the driver side. Just go to each window put it down half way go up one inch and then back down all the way. Very simple. Any questions feel free to contact me pepemansion@msn.com

Great idea on the pin location for the vresister . Soldering was easy tjough since the plug diies not get plugged in. I cut the wires and soldered the resistor in line between the yelliw ans brown...no.9 and no.10.
