I see a few obscure references and photos of 2nd gen RX350 cars with speakers in the top center of the dash. Was this Mark Levinson or what?

Yep, ML had it. It was a 2.25" like the side dash speakers too. Same part number even.

Mark Levinson wasn’t worth it IMO. They advertised it as having two extra rear speakers but they’re just 2-way 6.5” speakers in the back doors. The 8 ohm impedance also makes it much harder to put in replacement speakers.
My 80 dollar junkyard 06-12 Toyota Avalon JBL speaker setup sounds better and more crisp on my base model stock Pioneer amp. Both systems are made by HK I believe. The front door 6x9 paper speakers on the ML are also very susceptible to failure.
One thing I do have on my car from a ML is the side dash speaker grilles. They’re real metal on those cars so I swapped them into my base model. Direct fit and look really nice.
