new recall canadian Rx 330 models..
TORONTO, ON., November 9, 2011- Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) announced that it will conduct a voluntary safety campaign involving approximately 17,505 Toyota and 5,498 Lexus vehicles to replace the crankshaft pulley on the V6 engine.
There is a possibility that the amount of the adhesive agent applied between the outer ring and the torsional rubber damper (inner ring) in the crankshaft pulley may be inadequate. If the adhesive is insufficient, there is a possibility that the outer ring may become misaligned with the inner ring, causing noise and/or illumination of the discharge warning light. In some cases, the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley which could result in a sudden increase in steering effort.
The vehicles involved are certain:
• 2004 Avalon
• 2004 and 2005 Camry, Camry Solara, Highlander, Sienna
• 2006 Highlander HV
• 2005 ES330
• 2004 and 2005 RX330
• And 2006 RX400h
No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles or these Toyota model year vehicles equipped with 4-cylinder engines are involved.
Toyota is working to obtain the necessary replacement parts. Once the replacement parts have been produced in sufficient quantities, Toyota will send an owner notification by first class mail advising owners to make an appointment with an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealership to have the crankshaft pulley inspected and if necessary, replaced at no charge. The owner notifications will be mailed by first class mail beginning early 2012.
Customers who have any questions are asked to contact their local Toyota or Lexus dealership, contact Toyota Canada at 1-888-TOYOTA-8 (1-888-869-6828), or contact Lexus of Canada at 1-800-26-LEXUS (1-800-265-3987).
well there is still time for recall i suppose

Yup...eventually, due to recalls, I'll have an almost entirely new vehicle ----
So far, I have a new inverter (and may end up with another one depending on whether my new one (put in in 2009) is part of the inverter recall), a new transaxle, and a new kick plate near the gas pedal. I hope they recall the seats soon, because my leather is wearing out...
Apple will be replacing my 1st generation Nano with a new model (overheating batteries or something).
Wonder if I can have the wife recalled....

You just happened to read the release from Toyota Canada. There were others for the US.

Actually for the pulley recall every car is being dealt with on a case by case basis. Some of the vehicles in the vin range do not apply for the recall. The vehicle must be in the VIN range and also the crank pulley has to have a stamp + a serial number to be the "defective" pulley.
Similar for the RX inverter recall, once the car is in the VIN... you have to look at the inverter's serial # and match it to a toyota website that tells you if the inverter is involved... otherwise the dealer has to eat a 3K bill for the inverter..... ooooooppssss... we just started doing both campaigns a day ago

Just spoke to my dealer about this recall. My 2005 has 68k miles and is 7 years old. I was going to hold off doing the timing belt til 90k miles, but the dealer offered to change the timing belt while replacing the crank pulley for $399 ( includes parts and labor). Will also replace serpentine belt for part cost only. Since I plan to drive this car until the wheels fall off, this sounds like the best price I'll ever get to do a timing belt while the warranty work is being done. If I wait another year, I'll have to pay over $600. Anyone see why I should wait versus get it done early while the cost is offset by the warranty work?

I plan to do the same thing. I did get the letter from Lexus so my car is affected. I think 399 is a good deal. There would be additional labor because they will have to pull parts from the top as well as the affected area. My car has 75k so it's fairly relevant to do.
The letter stated I would be contacted when the dealers had been supplied with replacement parts. Do you plan to do the water pump as well?

Poqman you do realize that these water pumps all leak around 90k+? And its only 1 more hour of labor in combo w/ a tbelt?.. Its worth every penny to do the water pump when the tbelt gets done. Soon down the road youll be paying another 500-600 labor for the pump that couldve cost you 115 in labor...
