Default Moving from GA to NJ : performance of 2WD in the snow ?

Folks,

My company decided to relocate me from Atlanta to New Jersey. I am really wondering whether I should take my 2WD RX330 up North. Does anybody have any experience driving the 2 wheel drive version in the snow ? Can I survive by just fitting snow tires ? I'll be moving to the East Hannover/Morristown area.
Thanks for your advice.

Yves

You'll be fine. Just get some all terrain tires (ie, Michelin LTX), no need for snow tires. I actually prefer FWD in snow, more fun!! LoL.

Taxes here are terrible, way too expensive to live in NJ. My property tax is through the roof, coming in at about 15k. Way too much.

Assuming that you have been offered a very GOOD relocation package? Enough for you to get a new 4WD RX350?

And then you can sell the RX FWD to me?

Thanks.
I am coming to similar conclusions. The good thing is, I have no rug rats so I'm not dependant on the school district. From what I understand this will make a whole lot of difference on the real estate prices and associated taxes.

Wow had some close friends move up to NJ from here last year, they had a RX 400h AWD....their first time in snow and they loved how the car did.

Good luck and yes, get snow tires!

There's not enough snow to justify snow tires. East Hanover/Morristown is on the border of 'western' NJ which usually translates to a little more snow than the NYC area. 2WD should be fine. Heck, if my mom did it in her RWD Supra Turbo, I'm sure you can make it in the RX.

Other things about the area, there is a Lexus dealer close by but I can't recommend them. I'd say taxes are better in East Hanover than Mo'town. It has a little more suburban/small town feeling too. Anything else you want to know, just ask. Best of luck with your relocation.

If your looking for a good Lexus dealer in New Jersey, go to Bridgewater. They'll take good care of you, all though it's a bit far from Morristown.

^^ Definitely agree. I've gone to Bridgewater for the past 13 years. It's a straight shoot down 287 to 22, maybe 15 miles. I actually enjoy the drive, it's closer to 30 miles for me.

Bro had a pathfinder with 2wd/4wd option and i had audi.

pathfinder in 2wd is rear wheel...when i used that in snow, it made nice circles on the parking lot and was stuck there...couldn't drive it without 4wd in real snow.

Drove friends CRV, i think it is fwd but not sure....it wouldn't even move!

Welcome to NJ!!!!!!

Just get yourself some Blizzaks and you should be fine.

Heck, if i'm able to get around in my lowered SC4 with regular tires I think you'll do just fine!

BTW, I can give you a special CL bonus. My Mother's husband's son is the dispatcher for the East Hanover P.D. so let me know if you have any "trouble" up there! LOL

And yes, that would make him my step-brother but since I'm 41 and he's 23 and my mother got married for the 4th time I don't do the "step" thing. LOL
