2008 RX belt noise
All,
Over the last month or so I've noticed while stopped at an intersection what sounds like a belt "squealing." It's still under warranty but from what I've read belts are not a covered item. Oddly enough it only happens while in drive, neutral or park it idles quietly. Strikes me as odd that at only 43k miles to have a belt making noise. I assume it's a serpentine belt, is it easy to adjust the tension?
Thanks

Take it in, you are covered by warranty.

Thanks Mandyfig.
I went to a Toyota Service center for an oil change and tire rotation and was told that the Serpentine belt needed to be changed due to it being discolored, noisy and possible had cracks in it. Wanted $53 for the belt and $179 for labor. (I didn't hear any unusual noise when starting the vehicle, I use the remote start most of the time, but didn't hear any unusual noise while driving)
I saw your post and decided to call Lexus, and they told me that it's covered under the original warranty 4 years / 50k miles and take it to a Lexus service center and it should be covered at no charge.
Went to a Lexus service center explained the situation and mentioned that I called Lexus head quarters and found out that it was covered under the original warranty. They checked the vehicle and said nothing was wrong, that the Toyota place was just padding the bill.

If you do not hear squeaks, you are good. Check the condition of the belt yourself, it is easy to tell. Look for cracks, and check if it is loose. Press on it and it should not deflect much with 10 lbs of pressure.

Don't let it go to long, I had one squeaking for a couple of weeks before I took it in and had glazed the belt so tightening was no longer an option, new belts all round.

In my case (2007 under extended warranty), both the idler and tensioner needed to be replaced, as well as the belt. Pulleys and labor was covered, belt was not (wear item). Total cost was like $35, would have been $300 or so without warranty.

bump!
My 2008 rx350 is starting to make this weird squeaky noise like there are crickets under the hood when its idleing or at a stop. I'm guessing its the belt or pulley.
Anyone have the TSB? I have the extended oem warranty and gonna bring it in but I just want to see the TSB as a back up.
Thanks!

I have a 2008 Rx350 with a 100,000 miles on it. It started to have a chirping noise. I had the serpentine belt, idle pulleys and tensioner replaced and a different noise, but still squeaking/chirping noise persist, when at idle the noise is present if revered it seems to dissipate. The garage don't know if it is the alternator clutch or the water pump, both are costly. DOES ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM?.
