Please, not that garbage, again.
Nothing but marketing. I use nothing but BP in my RX. Here is a recent thread where we already rehashed this topic:

One can drive from along I-80 in Northern PA to South FL and use nothing but BP gas if one chooses. Which I do.

I'm in CA and I mostly use mid-grade gasoline and once in a while premium. I haven't noticed much of a difference between mid-grade and premium for me. Saving 10 cents per gallon is a lot for me now that the prices are climbing. Once or twice a month I use Chevron with Techron.
I do mostly city driving so I only get around 17-19mpg (on monitor). I did notice that when I took my RX to Reno (4hr trip) all highway, I was able to get 33 mpg (on monitor) and this is driving at an avg 70-75mph. On the trip back, the highest it ever got was 38 mpg and that's probably due to mostly downhill slopes and just cruising; as soon as I got closer to the city, it dropped dramatically to 32 mpg and for the rest of the tank (I always fill up at just under 1/4 tank) I think the avg went down to around 24 mpg with mostly city.

No way did you get 33 MPG with AWD, esp at 70+ mph. Are you SURE this was the AVERAGE MPG for a long stretch...or was it just an short blip "instantaneous" MPG?

Anyone know if a brand gas uses same additives for all their grades? I.e., could you expect same additives in, say, Mobil 87 and 93 (89 being a blend of both grades)?

There are no publications which tell you what additives each brand is using and in what quantities. Those are trade secrets.

It wasn't for the whole stretch of the trip. When we started out it was at 24 AVG MPG and as we got an hour and half into the trip non-stop, it slowly climbed to 33 MPG, with the highest at 38. Remember, I was cruising (hovering over the brakes half the time) downhill most the time on the way back after the mountain range. So, YES, I believe that it was not as accurate of a reading as I hoped. Guess I should have also mentioned after the mountains we were traveling mostly straight/flat road and it dropped down to a constant 28-29 MPG.

I am averaging around 24 miles per gallon now. I have a k&n drop in filter, flowmaster exhaust and torque master spark plugs. I always use 91 octane. My car has over 124,000 miles on her; 60% is highway and 40% is city driving.

It does seem to start off that way. When I experimented it did the same thing. But after a while it seemed to drop in millage, power, the exhaust smell (rotten egg`s) came around. I have too many hills to pull here where I live. So for me any way, I`m better off with the premium. And the premium is much better for the cat converters.

lexus114 - Makes sense; would likely do the same. And if I get any signs that the car is not performing I will go back to premium. I'd like to take it to 200k miles.
