Default Annoying Rattle in back seat area

Ever since I bought my 2008 Lexus RX350, I've noticed a rattle in the back seat area. It's still there after 15,000 miles and I'm hoping someone else has figured this out. I first thought it was the retractable cover for the rear compartment, but I've removed that and the rattle still continues. I've noticed that it becomes worse when I lower the centre arm rest between the back seats. I've tried moving the back seats forwards and backwards, but just cannot locate the rattle. Has anyone else figured this out? Thanks, Bob

it isn't the cover itself, but the little 'buttons' that face the hatch and actually touch it.

You can push them in and they click in place, and push them again and they come out. Push them in and leave them in and that should take care of your noise.

I just had the dealer show me this. I had been going crazy trying to find it and was relieved it was something soooo simple.

Good luck!

hope this photo shows up... the little "buttons' I am talking about are showing. The right one at the far right side of the photo. The left one is facing you directly across from the left tail light. You actually push them down (not in)

As xis suggested, the first place everyone, including the dealers, say to check is the setting of those buttons That's what I did, but it didn't help. If resetting the buttons doesn't change anything, have someone sit in the back to help you determine where the rattle is coming from.

There's an unusual auditory illusion in my 2007. From the front seat, the rattle appears to be in the back. From the back, the rattle appears to come from the front. I verified that the rattle in my car is coming from somewhere in the dash or the left windshield column. Incidentally, the rattle disappears for long periods of time, eg, a week or so, and then reappears for a while. It's maddening.

My dealer installed some material in the dash (I believe there's a TSB on it), but it had no effect. I plan to take the car back and tell them to keep it until they find and fix the problem - I don't care how long it takes.

Also check on the hatch area where it makes contact with the "buttons" mentioned above. One of mine had a small fabric pad that was worn down and the other didn't have anything. I found some thin adhesive rubber pads and put them on the hatch and that seemed to fix the rattle.

I had something that sounded like a rattle, but it turned out to the the leather on the seats squeaking where they contact each other. I used a little leather conditioner on the material between the seats and all is quiet now.

I took my 2007 RX350 to the dealer for the VVT-I oil hose replacement. I also mentioned the annoying rattle in the rear hatch area. They were aware of the rattle problem and performed the TSIB NV5016 - Tonneau Cover Latch Rattle repair. The following parts were replaced:

1 67754-48050-B0 Spacer, Back Door TR
1 67754-48060-B0 Spacer, Back door TR

This repair solved the rear cargo rattle for me. I also had a minor service done. They provided an overnight loaner car because the cargo parts needed to be ordered. The dealer then delivered my car free of charge the next day. I live 107 miles away. This dealer DCH Lexus of Oxnard, California provided excellent service and I highly recommend them.

Thank you all for your advice. I will check with the dealer for the repair Rainbird mentioned as I've tried pretty well all the others. Bob
