Default Rear wiper broken

I have a 2008 RX350. Bought in August, so still a newbie.

We had a big snow this week. And the snow fell off the roof of the vehicle and broke my rear wiper blade. This seems like it would be a common thing (the snow sliding off the roof of the vehicle). So I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what can you do to prevent it? Besides the obvious of removing all snow from top of vehicle before you take off.

And is the wiper covered under the warrenty? Any other thoughts on this issue?

Very frustrated and disappointed - seems like the wiper should be stronger than this.

Thanks.

Best to post this in the 2nd Gen RX forum as this section is for the 2010's.

It is interesting to note that they moved the wiper arm/pivot point to the top of the window on the new RX - possibly for this reason. I like it a bit more because it was always a pain trying to clean the rear window with the wiper at the bottom. Haven't tried on the 2010 yet so not sure if it is more or less convenient for this purpose.

Incidentally, I didn't need to look but noticed you are in Colorado. Wow - big storm so early in the year! Hope that's not a sign of things to come for everyone.

Not sure if that would be a warranty issue or not. Might be tough trying to convince the dealer that it's a design issue and not a 'wear and tear' type of damage. Please let us know what they say. If they don't cover it, it's probably a wash for your deductible if you claim it on insurance (if they would even cover it) so it might not be worth the report and higher premiums in the future.

Good luck!

Another reason to clear the snow off the vehicle before driving it.

It's law here to remove snow from the roof before driving. There have been too many incidents where cars were damaged/people injured including one person killed by snow flying off a truck's roof. Out of courtesy to other drivers, please remove the snow before hitting the road. I've used a sno brum for years and it doesn't damage the paint. They're available online or at dealers. http://www.angelguardproducts.com/re...um/snobrum.htm

campc, I doubt the rear wiper will be covered under warranty. You can try some of the dealers on this site to find the best price. And there are a lot of DIYers in the 2nd gen forum that can help you change it out. Good luck.

Thanks.

My husband figured it out after a little online search. Snap off the plastic cover and tighten the 10 mm bolt underneath. Seems to work good as new.

Since we are on the topic of the rear wiper blade. Now that it is hidden up in rear spoiler, does anyone know how to clean the blade or change it when it wears out? There must be way to keep the wiper down?

it is easier then u think:

turn on ignition
turn on rear wiper and shut off the engine

it will stay in down possition..
