Default Bad Day: Car got hit while standing still!!!

I went to pick up pizza on Saturday night. While I was waiting to turn left to get out of the plaza. A minivan approached the entrance and wanted to make a right turn. The car (the "Securitas") following the minivan couldn't stop and rear-ended it. The minivan couldn't stop and hit my car. My car is exactly 2 months old on saturday.

3 cars after the accident.

Opposite view

The damage

Closer look

After the minivan backed out and the tire sensor came on. It seems like the minivan had pushed in the tire and had caused some lost in tire pressure. I hope the rim is not bended.

The car was still driveable after the accident. I drove it home and the alignment seems ok.

Does it look like there might be some damage to the chassis?

You feel so helpless when this kind of thing happened.

Glad no one got hurt.

RX is unibody, so you dont have to worry about frame damage. Being unibody, one can get into a situation where the geometry of the 4 wheels can be thrown off and the body shops have to put it on rack to bring it back in specs.

Since the pictures show surface damage (nothing got really pushed in) and your drive back did not indicate alignment issues, I would not worry about structural damage.

Working with isurance compnies is no fun, rental cars and repair shops is pretty aggravating. May be one day they will reimburse for the not at fault inconvinience (sp?)

I'd worry about front suspension damage, but you wont know until you inspect the suspension. Other than that if it was low speed the frame should be okay. You will need a new fender and drivers door for sure though. The lower black side skirt trim probably will be replaced as well. If the rim is scratched from the accident you probably will get a new rim and tire as well.

Major bummer! I actually got hit pulling into my driveway. A teenage girl driver was in a hurry and decided to try to pass me before I turned into the driveway. She took off most of my front end of my SUV to the tune of about $5K in damage. The SUV was never the same after that.

Too bad my uncle down here can't work on your vehicle. He would add a little paste and smooth out the area then paint, leaving you with a lot of insurance money.

I see this things happen a lot down here, and with smaller vehicles the suspensions are more likely to be affected, but from the looks of things probably after all is said and done, just an alignment to check everything is okay. It would be pretty simple to shake the wheel (with it jacked off the ground) and see if any bushings are loose.

Thanks everyone for their replies.

A claim had been filed and are waiting for the adjuster to call.

Closer look at the car today and realized the driver's side door doesn't close properly. The door had been pushed towards the back door.

Hopefully the car will be in the body shop by tomorrow.

At my track, we have dogs that wander (they dig holes underneath the fence) and a few people have hit them, no damage except some blood, but nothing like what happened with this deer incident shown.
