Default Aftermarket stereo/CD changer for 2004 RX330

To: Toronto/GTA owners of the RX330

Hi,

I'm looking to replace the factory car stereo on my 2004 Lexus RX 330. I called Krommer Radio in Toronto and they said they can't do it.

Does anyone know if

(a) it can be done; and
(b) there's any other shop in Toronto and GTA that can?

I'd appreciate a reply.

Thanks.

Sure it can be done. Well, you can't really add a CD changer to the stock headunit since it is an in dash changer already, but you can remove it and install any aftermarket system you desire. I have an Alpine IVA-D310 and an Apline PXA-H700 processor in a stacked double DIN set up. I've also added other video system things like monitors, Platstation, and a DVD changer. I run an aftermarket amp powering the stock speakers. I figure if I can install it all by myself a pro shop should be able to do it as well.

Thanks for your reply. My RX is a pre-owned 2004 that I got "as is" --- with a basic single-CD unit. It's not the lack of multi-CD capability that bothers me; it's the so-so sound quality of the factory unit itself. FM listening is fine, CD playback sucks, to my ears at least. I listen mostly to acoustic jazz and some classic rock.

So, how did you fit the Alpine unit into the tapered bottom of the original factory unit? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but I just want to get more detail on how you did it on your vehicle. If you don't mind posting some pics, that would help.

Appreciate your reply.

Read this link. I just happened to buy the 2DIN version instead of the single DIN one pictured here. The difference is just the opening, but the surround shape is the same. This piece is actually a Toyota Harrier part for the Japan Harrier so it is OEM.
