Default Day Lights (TFL) disable? RX330 HOW??

How do I disable TFL in 2004 RX330? I read all the posts and noone knows, someone says to find a box under the hood that says caution hot, someome else said to remove the engine cover and look at the fender!!? Everyone seems to say remove fuse will not work.

So how can it be done? Maybe there is a way with CAN bus? Even the ES330 has an option to turn off this light on the switch. Can I buy that switcfh?

Do a site-wide search for "DRL disable". This topic comes up a lot, although I don't get why you would want to disable a safety feature.

For example, the IS forum talks about it being an un-publicized C-BEST setting that the dealer can change. I haven't heard about such a setting on the RX, but maybe it's hidden in the computer somewhere.

In the RX300 for instance, there was a resistor (male/female adapter piece hooked together right underneath the battery holder (easier to reach if you take out the battery). Won't affect your brights or anything else.

Why would anyone want to do that?

Mine are still functioning, but there was a time a few years ago where having headlights on during the day could result in a traffic fine (they need cash down here). Some police officers cannot tell the difference between DRLs and regular headlights (this is Mexico and they don't argue, they just give you a ticket). Having a Lexus RX300 (too rare down here), I had one instance where I got pulled over during one of those checkpoints and the officer said your lights are on. Fortunately, there was another American with Texas plates in line with you guessed it...an RX300 and DRLs, so the officer let us go.

My cousin's 1995 VW Golf VR6 (he got it in the U.S. and imported it here legally under some amensty laws) has those DRLs, too, but his car is common here.

If you want to talk about disconnecting DRLs, one of my father's friends had a late 1990s Volvo Station Wagon where the DRLs were always going out, sometimes one, sometimes both and he got warned once by the state police in Jersey for having one on and one not on. Finally, he disconnected the thing.

I have not had a problem with the bulbs going out and they would be simple to replace anyway.

I've wanted to do this since day 1, but I still haven't found a confirmed method for the RX330. I tried various methods posted here with no luck. Most disable the highbeams. If anyone has any latest info that actually works that would be great.

Any Lexus dealer can disable the DRL's. They might have to actually read the service manual, but it can be done. Its just one of the LPS that can be done.

How much does the factory scan tool cost?

I want to enable the hatch to open without having to unlock the doors, disable the stupid sound when you open, close the hatch, etc and of course disable DRL.

If I go to the dealer they will either:

1) Charge me $200
2) Tell me its illegal to do this (disable DRL, chimes, etc)
3) Tell me it just is not possible

pick the two you like most.

The one Lexus dealer I asked about in person (while on vacation back in 2004) basically told me to take a hike when I asked them about this, despite my situation in Mexico at the time. I won't say which dealer it was (not the wonderful dealer in San Antonio), but it really ticked me off.

It's not listed on the LPS brochure I received with my '05. I'd rather have them on anyway; I see them as a great safety feature.

It's not listed in the C-BEST settings in the 2004 service manual, either. That doesn't mean it's not there, but you might have to have the scan tool to know for sure.

Its not listed under the LPS that Lexus openly advertises but it is available under the settings the mechanic at a Lexus dealer can adjust. Its in the service manual under customize parameters for the lighting system, I should know since I had to tell the dealer where to find the info for my old 2005 and now my 2006 GX470. I would do it myself but the scan tool cost a couple thousand dollars. Not exactly for the do it yourselfer.
