RX300 AWD system.
Hi all,
I read in one of the threads, someone who claimed the RX's AWD was actually a FWD most of the time (or a 95% FWD) and nobody said otherwise.
According to what I know and according to www.edmunds.com it has a 50-50 AWD system.
From the "Full Test: 2000 Lexus RX 300"
Do you have any more info about the Lexus/Toyota AWD system?

"The solution was to make an all-wheel-drive option, combining an integrated transfer case with a viscous coupling center differential and an optional limited-slip rear differential. It provides a 50/50 front-to-rear power split for even traction,"

From what I've read and experienced, the quote is correct. I've tested out the AWD in my 300 on packed snow the first week I got it just to see for myself. Standing on it yielded equal torque to all the wheels (front and rear) and amazed me in the traction and acceleration with snow flying from all four bridgestones. Had to jump on the binders to avoid smacking a tree in my own yard. That would have been embarrassing!

According to Lexus technical documentation, the RX330 employs a 50-50 AWD system. On a different thread, I posted the description from one of these documents. We got a chance to drive in some pretty heavy rain over the weekend here on the east coast (more coming with Isabel it appears), and the AWD system held tight to the road.
