Prepping Your Used Engine For Install
I dropped the 2000 on another complete used JDM engine from a 2002 Highlander 4x4. They swear compatibility because they swap them in their shop.
Now that it will arrive this week. What kind of prep to that should I do?
Yes, I am going to pull the valve covers and scrub the heads on the engine. Get as much sludge out as I can.
Yes, I am going to drop the upper oil pan and clean the block best I can from underneath.
What should I pour in the cylinders? A little motor oil? PB Blaster? Marvel Mystery Oil?
There are things I am going to do. Timing belt / water pump, spark plugs, new oil pump, new motor mounts, new serpentine belts, bunch of exhaust manifold gaskets, new front seals for cam & crank, new thermostat, gonna clean and swap over the VVTi solenoids (I know mine are good), clean and swap the Knock Sensors, clean and swap the Cam and Crank Sensors, clean the intake manifolds and throttle body with associated gentler cleaner and a new bead of Toyota Build A Gasket on the transmission (with a new trans filter and flush)
Yes I am gonna turn by hand with some oil in the pan to flush the oil lines with cheap oil. Then drain out that cheap stuff.
Do I put gobs of lithium grease on all the cam lobes? Or do I use Super Slick?
Anything else?
