Brakes and Rotors All Around
Well I replaced rotors and brakes at all 4 corners a few weeks ago and it was needed, however the rotors I replaced were only 4 years old (about 20k miles on them) but were probably the cheapest ones out there. I can't remember when the brakes were replaced last, so I just replaced them too since it has been years and years. Amazingly they were still in pretty decent condition.
So I spent a little more money on 4 Brembo Rotors and went with Toyota pads. Car rides and brakes like new again. The old rotors were badly warped and you felt it every time you applied the brakes.
How many miles/years are you all getting on your rotors, if I may ask? Curious.

I wish I could say the same about original rotors - or minimal brake jobs. I don't brake hard, either - but it is an un-garaged New England RX.
I'm on at least my fourth set of front rotors. The last set got ruined by a frozen caliper.
For most of its life, the RX has gone to a Toyota dealership for all its maintenance. After my experience with the caliper, and the age/mileage (11/185k) of the RX, it is now going to indies.
The rears I believe are on the second (or possibly third) set of rotors.

I have found the life is extended with attention to detail...It is very important to lube the contact areas of the pads that touch the pad supports. Also the Caliper slide pins should be lubed with a good quality grease that does not wash out. And the final step is to make sure tire idiots don't over torque the wheels and when done finish with a torque wrench. I have had the original rotors go over 129k miles with no problems when these details are followed. I know many areas of the country are very harsh on the under parts of the vehicle (snow country) but here in California long life is easier to maintain. Lubing is a very important detail that brake shops don't do..... one last thing google the proper way to break in a new set of pads and rotors...something that I wasn't aware of till recent years.. Just did this on my truck, and man what a difference on the braking of the vehicle as well as smoothness.....

99 RX with 186K+ miles, original rotors and never turned (post ownership).
I do have an annoying (which I deem is proper) is brake and release, instead of long continues pressure ... this helps dissipate heat.

I replaced the original front rotors three years ago, with cheap AutoZone brand rotors. Then before the warranty expired on them (2 years), I had them replaced for free since they had already warped/excessive runout. Likely due to improper torque application after having my tires installed.
I just replaced the original rear rotors at 195k miles, plainly due to the fact that were old and had high miles. They were still within' spec.

I do the same thing and its not annoying at all if done gently. Its a habit stuck with me from riding race/street bikes. Definitely reduces the hot spots and chance of warping the rotors and brake fade. You would be able to tell the difference if you had a brake fluid temp sensor. Glad to know others do that as well.
