Increase Mileage w/use of Additive and Higher Octane fuel
I would like to share some of my findings...it may help some folks
My drive to work for the past year as a test.
48 miles a day mixed highway and stop and start traffic
1) 18.2 mpg regular gasoline
2) 19.5 mpg regular w/6 ounces of Lucas fuel additive
3) 22.2 mpg premium w/10 ounces of Lucas fuel additive
Just as a note:
RX300 2000 w/140k miles
Mobile 1 oil
NAPA Gold 1516 filter
Tire presure 37 psi

Interesting. What Octane of fuel is the premium? 37 PSI for tires seems high. What tires do you have and does your tire manufacturer recommend that?
I have been getting about 18.3 with Sunoco 93 octane premium fuel, brand new michelin ltx m/s2 tires at 32 PSI nitrogen filled, mobile 1 full synthetic (just swiched 1 oil change ago). About 70/30 highway to city.
2002 rx300
95,000 miles
OEM filter

There is a long thread on gas mileage here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...out-yours.html
I'll try out your fuel recommendation and see if it makes any difference in my vehicle.
I was trying to do a cost comparison. How many gallons is your typical fill-up?
I used these variables:
Gallons/tank 14
Lucas additive cost/gallon 26.98 (price on Amazon)
Regular fuel 3.23 (NJ, Getty)
Premium fuel 3.58
This is the comparison.
regular reg+6oz premium+10oz
fuel $45.22 $45.22 $50.12
Additive $0.00 $1.26 $2.11
Total fuel cost $45.22 $46.48 $52.23
MPG 18.2 19.5 22.2
Miles/tank 254.8 273 310.8
Miles/dollar 5.63 5.87 5.95
The improvement surprises me a lot.
WRT premium vs regular, I always thought you should use the minimum octane necessary to keep your engine from knocking. I don't know if the introduction of blended fuels alters that thinking. Certainly ethanol blends reduce your MPG.
I don't use additives either. When I worked in a garage we sold a lot of them though.
My 99 has 220,000 miles, gets about 18.5 mpg, all short hops. Haven't done any of the maintenance recommended in the above thread.

My fill up is 15 galons and I try not to over fill. premium this week was $3.30/gal in my area.
Curently I buy the additive in 1 galon jug $27.99 autozone, I am considering ordering the 5 galon bucket for $103.99 over the net. not sure about shipping cost yet though.
maxSteel pls keep us posted on your results.

+1, I despise ethanol.
I try and use http://pure-gas.org/ to find gas without ethanol whenever possible.

I bought my 2000 on 11/15 this year and chose it based on using my buddys 01 for awhile when he was out of town. He bought it new ..now has 113K and has never used anything other that regular (85) gas..gets between 19-22. I've tried a tank of mid (87), premium (92) and two tanks of reg (85) am consistent at 19.5-20.5. About 70-30 hiway to city driving and lots of elevation changes for both of us. Neither of us uses additives. We drive from 7000' to 4500' and back in much of our travel. I would expect about 22 mpg on a primary freeway trip, without all the mountains, where cruise control would kick in.
