Default P1130 & P1150 as car is warming up

My wife's 2000 RX300 (70,000 miles) check engine light comes on as the car is warming up. The codes are P1130 & P1150. I don't think both A/F sensors would go out at the same time, and having the codes come on only when the car is warming up probably points to something else. Once the car is warm I can clear them by disconnecting the battery and the engine light does not come back on when the car is started again. Any suggestions as to how to trouble-shoot this?

P1150 is the sensor by the radiator. The P1130 is for the one behind the engine.

This thread will help you test the sensors:https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...esistance.html

BTW: A quick search will reveal a lot of helpful advice.

Hypervish
Your sarcasm is noted, not appreciated and not helpful. I did search and read every single thread & post that listed both P1130 & P1150. However, none of them referenced that the codes came on only when the car was warming up.
I also know where the sensors are and how to test them. But since the problem is intermittent they will indicate that they are both good and testing them is a waste of time
I also noted that you had 1839 posts. Hopefully in a least one of your posts you have provided someone help, rather than just being obnoxious.
I apologize for this post, but I really am looking for someone who might have an idea of what the cause of the symptoms might be.

Might be a good idea for you to go somewhere else for your help. Maybe stand on the streetcorner and shout it to the world and see if you get an answer. I did not see how Hypervish's response could possibly have been taken offensively by any REASONABLE person. I did not see any sign of sarcasm in his post at all! I also don't see how he could have known that you had done all the research that you stated, unless he's psychic, which I doubt that he is. You might want to 1st. get some professional help for an attitude problem, then you might be more successful in solving the car problems.

I was not being sarcastic, I was simply trying to help. But, if that's the way you feel, good luck!

BTW: I spent the past 5 minutes debating whether or not I should stoop down to your level and post a reply. I want my 5 minutes back...lol

Have you checked the ECT sensor? As I understand it, P1130/50 will only appear if the A/F sensor voltage is not changing AFTER engine temp has warmed up. What are your ST/LT fuel trims?

I sincerely apologize for my initial response. I accept the responses and agree that I over reacted to someone who was just trying to help.

Code58's suggestion to shout on a street corner was actually a lot of help. The street corner is Google and I have expanded my search to all vehicles. I now know that the problem is the air fuel ratio (actual or indicator) just as the car is warming up and the mixture (or indicator) is OK once the car gets hot. I am confident that it is not both A/F sensors and think that it is probably an actual A/F problem when the car is warming up - and am now looking for what might be cause the temporary A/F mixture issue.

I don't know how the check the short and long term fuel trims as artbuc asked about, and is there a way to test the ECT sensor without removing it?

Thanks for the help.

Apology accepted.
Hopefully this PDF helps.

To see the fuel trims, you need to hook the car up via OBDII to a code reader with real time data.

The codes you listed is related to the A/F ratio sensor. Check to see if it's in fuel control, if not, time to replace those sensors. They are pricey too.

Hypervish: The PDF was extremely helpful. Regretfully the code reader I purchased last Saturday (after Autozone said they could not pull the codes in California) only reads codes and does not have a "real time" capability.

Good news is no Check Engine light this morning. It was either the bottle of injector cleaner that I put in yesterday with no expectations but figured it couldn't hurt, or the slightly different driving conditions as I didn't stop for coffee just as the car was warming up today. I will have to wait until next weekend to see in the injector cleaner was all that was required.

Before replacing the A/F sensors, make sure you have a good battery. I received P1130 and P1150 and just before ordering the sensors from amazon, I got the battery checked. Turned out to be bad, and once the new battery was installed, the CEL did not return! Yeah...saved myself a couple hundred dollars!
