I have always been faithful to Amsoil in my other vehicles and practiced extended drain intervals. Never had a problem and the cars have routinely made 175K without a problem. The sludging issues of this engine would make me question my current practice and if I am going to drain synthetic at 5K I would look at using the on-sale brand at Walmart.

I have a lot of friends outside the U.S. though that wish their products were more commercially available (major PITA to get when I was in Mexico), because they would sell like hotcakes.

I have used either the 0w-30 or 5w-30, depending on the vehicle. My wife's Acura TL has 225K miles and I used the 0w-30 and a 25K/1 year oil change schedule with a large Baldwin filter and it still runs beautifully and uses about 8 oz of oil between changes. Not sure that the 1-MZ would tolerate being treated that way.

Just plunked down on some Lucas 0W30 and an HP-2009 oil filter from K&N on Amazon.
Went by Pep Boys today and the filters were like $3 more there than on Amazon.
Too my shocking surprise, I did not see any Castrol 0W30 there...not even a sign with price (as if they were out). I will have to check Autozone to see if Castrol 0W30 still lives there.

That 5W30 Ultra I am sure has done a great cleaning in my RX300. I am supposed to get my Lucas oil tomorrow sometime (depending on when the UPS guy comes) and if it is not too late after tae kwon do, I will drain and post a photo of what comes out.
