Brake Light Comes on at idle
What I did
New Plugs (6)
New Coil Paks rear bank (3)
New VTT oil control valves front and rear bank
New CMP bank one
Found and repaired two vac leaks
New IACV
New Throttle Position Sensor
New Pads and Rotors all the way around
No codes idles about 500 RPM and no brake light, put it in gear RPM drops and brake light flashes goes right out upon step on the gas and RPM's go over 500 RPM and stays out while driving, but if you sit at a light for a few minutes it starts dinging and flashing and RPM drops to around 500.
If your idling and turn on the air or heater the RPMS drop and the brake light comes on until you give it a little gas and it goes right out.
I check the vac lines to the brake boost and they are good. Brakes are solid and brake fluid is right to the max line.
Is there any way to increase the idle not sure if there is an idle control screw or not.
Thanks,
John

To be clear, are you talking about the red "BRAKE" indicator on the dash - the same one that is used for the parking brake? If so, it's probably the sensor in the rubber cap if you have an early model RX300. Later models had the sensor located elsewhere, and I don't think those are as prone to problems. It sounds like the same thing I've experienced on my '99. Apparently, the float gets old and and it seems the system gets sensitive to drops in voltage. I added a little more fluid and it's mostly gone away, but comes back every now and again on it's own, even tho it's at the "max" line. With every flash it "dings" the chime, sometimes quite annoyingly. I think I just need to get a new cap (with the float sensor built in).
There is another indicator that gives a message that the brake light circuit has a burned out bulb. That is a completely different indicator, and many messages on the forum confuse the two.
Maybe someone else knows about the idle; I didn't know it was adjustable. 500 RPM is too low, and that's bound to cause all kinds of trouble.
Good luck

Idle speed (set screw) adjustment is no longer an option. ECU with its sensors has taken this option out. One has to get to the root of the problem and that is why the OBDII code reader is important.

Fixed
I cleaned the float and under the cap of the brake res. and drove it all day with no brake light or dinging.
The idle is now around 750 most likely just needed a good drive to settle everything I did in.
Runs great.
Now on to the interior.
Thanks,
John

What is the color and consistency of the brake fluid in the reservoir?
If it is not clear and new fluid and it has been about 2 years, you had it purged ... I would say it is time.
