My Automatic Headlights have quit working on my 1999 RX 300. Have any ideas?

1. Stalk switch position.
2. Sensor on the dash
3. Wiring (which includes bad stalk switch)

In that order. So start at 1 and see if the stalk is set set on Auto. [usually is changed by valets].

Stalk switch is in correct position. I can hear the relay click setting the switch in Auto. Is there a way to check if the sensor has gone bad?

The sensor is on the dash (button like thing near the screen). Maybe a kind member can take a picture and post.

Testing is bit difficult as the reverse test .. lights turn off instead of on is more conclusive. What you should do is cover them (no light shining on it) and see if the lights come on. If they do then the sensor is the culprit and if they dont you found nothing.

The other option is to get the electrical diagram and voltmeter and trace the problem.

I tried reaching undr the dash to see if there was a nut on the backside of the light sensor so I could jump around it to check it out. Rubberman couldn't get to the backside of this sensor. The Auto wouldn't work last night and I covered the sensor about 10 different times today with no success. But now all of a sudden the Auto works as it is supposed to. GO FIGURE. It is like my shifter console light. The bulb is fine but There are times it just won't come on but most of the time works fine. Thanks for the Help>

i have a similar problem. my automatic headlights point WAY down too far. Lexus said it might cost 500 bucks for a new sensor that is located on the rear suspension... any suggestions?

This is totally different problem.

Previous problems were related to auto-ON and off (applies for HID and Non-hid)

What you are describe here, falls under auto-leveling for HIDs only. There a sensor at the rear (the one your dealer mentioned) and actual motor in the headlamp. The major part is to diagnose the problem. You can ask the parts dept for actual price of the sensor and replace it yourself. The only problem is if the diagnosis is bad, parts will not accept a return (check with them about their return policy).
