Default check engine light/cruise control

I have a 2000 RX300 AWD with 101000 miles on it. The transmission went last Sept and was replaced with a Lexus supplied rebuild. Not sure of the miles on the trans but probably 5 to 6 thousand.

Yesterday i was on the highway doing about 60 mph and engaged cruise control. The check engine light came on a moment or two later. I had driven the car about 10 miles when the light came on. The car seem to run ok the rest of the way home (about another 10 miles) except that the engine seemed to be reving higher than normal for a given speed about 4000 rpm @60miles an hour. i normally keep the trans set to overdrive all the time. I tried switching overdrive off to see if it had any effect. The tach indicator didnot move when i toggled o/d off and on.

I would appreciate any ideas. Going out to get the trouble codes read out but i trust the resources in here.

Thanks

Jim

At times when CEL comes on, the machine is forced into limp mode (No O/D). Get the codes read and we will go from there.

By the way the O/D may revert to normal when you turn ignition off (the next time you start).
