Default Noise when fan is on

I have a 99 RX300. Terrible noise occurs when the fan is turned on but seems to go away after a while (comes back sometimes). Any fix? Thanks.

P.S. also sqeaky noise from steering column. I read some threads in the forum and am going to try the tricks provided in those threads.

If you are talking about the heat and cooling fan, than maybe some debris such as leaves, twigs, etc got into the heater core and fell into the fan..check your cabin filter and see if it is still there. it would stop the debris normally.

Not sure about the fans but the noise from the steering column sounds like u might need a knew intermediate shaft. They list for 355.95$ the part number is 45202-48020. Good luck.

Thanks. I will try the lubrication first before spending that money.

If you can make the distinction that the noise comes when you are in the process of turning the steering wheel vs fan.

The ducting is typically thin plastic shell and when individual pieces are snapped together there is typically a foam gasket. Over time the foam does disintegrate and comes apart. You may be hearing a strand hitting the duct, which has started to separate.

Thanks for the response. The strange thing is it usually happens when the fan is on and lasts less than a minute.

Has your car ever gotten to the point here it has over heated, or close to? you could have mealted the rad. fan shrout and when the fan turns on the blades are hitting the shrout where it was melted.

Are you hearing the squicking noise from the cockpit, or is it from the engine bay? You might want to look at getting a new power steering pump if it's from teh EB.

The noise when the fan is on comes more from the passenger side. It stops after a while.

The squeaky sound is heard when I turn the steering wheele. I read on this forum that some people fixed by lubricating the steering shaft near the brake pedal with lithium grease. I am going to give a try this weekend if I can find the grease.

Is the A/C on when you where the noise? Check to see if there is anything hitting any one of the fans like when the rad. fan turns on or then you have the a/c on. Also when you're driving it kinda hard and/or going around turns.

You can get that grease from anywhere at any hardware store. I have it here on the shelf at Lexus, but that doesn't really help you. try to lube the shaft up (hahah that doesn't sound right at all) and see what happens?

Keep us posted. Thanks, Mat.
