Problem With My RX
Well, my baby is not well. It is making a squeking/squealing type sound. It sounds like a bad or old fan belt - this baffles me Doesn't this only happen to older cars with high mileage, not a 2000 Lexus with 12,000 miles. I noticed it today on a rainy and humid day.
We have a 1995 Blazer with 123,000 miles that has a squeaky fanbelt that only acts up under humind or rainy conditions. I just don't understand why my RX is doing this, the belt can't be old!
Also, I was looking at the belt, and it looks like there are two seperate belts. I thought all newer cars had a serpentine belt, but the RX has two - one larger and one smaller, both sharing the crankshaft pulley. This thing is going to the dealership, she's not well.

Can't pull that with me - I have FWD Thanks for replying to my message though. There are a lot of lookers. Does anyone have any ideas?

Lex, if the squealing is in fact from one of the belts, it can happen to any vehicle. Things that can cause it are usually contaminants that get under the belt or sometimes a change in the belt tension.
I wouldn't sweat it, a trip to a competent dealer should resolve it quickly.
But of course ol' ***** will remind us there are no competent dealers. Or 4WD. Or Santa Claus.

Well guys, I woke up early this morning to take the RX to Buter Lexus of Macon and looked out the window to see it wet and rainy. I was glad b/c that is when my belt made the squeaking noises, so it would be easy to show the dealer the problem.
Well, what do ya know - no squeaks. Of course, it's the age old story. Whatever is wrong will not go wrong when your car is at the dealer. I took it anyway and the dealer brushed the belt, or something like that, and tightened it.
So far so good. Great service at the dealer. They even washed my car even though it was raining outside

Again
Just as I said, if it is the belts that you hear squealing then the squealing will stop if you spray them with a light bit of water, then they will start to squeal again as soon as the water dries.

Hey!!!!
I have the same squeaky problem with my ReX! I'm supposed to take him to the shop soon, so I'll mention the belt thing. Thanks for putting up your problem. Before they thought it was the engine, because they found an oil leak or something. Well, now that I know I'm not the only one with the rainy day blues.... I can rest assured that my ReX will be properly taken cared of... then I can use the fun IS loaner! =)
By the way... what's cool about my Lexus dealer is that they offer free vaccuum and car wash for every Lexus vehicle anytime within working hours! =) I love my Lexus!

I hope this information does help you ZoomSport. It hasn't rained since the repair, so I don't know if it'll do it again, but I don't suspect it will.
I really, REALLY wanted an IS loaner too Too bad you have to be 21 , they didn't have any loaner cars left that Friday anyway. I've got one more year to go and then I'll have to FIND something to wrong with the RX to bring it in for service to get an IS loaner j/k
