What is the cost of 30,000 mile service?
#1
We are coming up on our 30,000 mile mark and called to schedule our car in for an oil change and were told by the dealer that we need to have our 30,000 mile service performed and that it was going to run $650!!!
OUCH.
Questions:
1) What are other dealers charging for 30K service?
2) What do they do as part of the 30K service?
If it is one of those "We check fluids, adjust belts, etc." scams then I think I'll pass as I can keep an eye on my own fluids etc. But if they do something meaningful I might be willing to consider it.
Thoughts?

I'd check the owner's manual to see exactly what needs to be done at 30k. Just make sure they do what is necessary and/or only what you want done for the 30k service. I haven't done the 30k yet, I am about to have the 10k done and it only needs an oil change and tire rotation. It should be around $99.

Thanks, I'll check the owner's manual and see if there is anything else that needs done. Since we are going to be getting new tires sometime before winter I'll pass on the tire rotation and I can change the oil and air filter myself or use Jiffy Lube or something. Sounds like a dealer scam to me.
BTW, we had the light in our dash that is under the "D" for Drive go out, anyone else had this happen? P, N, R, etc. all work but the D no longer lights up. Should be warranty work.

Light going out--This should be covered under the warranty. Seems like a fused bulb.
30K service. I agree that most of these are rip offs. Some of the toyota dealers are known to work on the RX 300, especially with the introduction of the highlander. I would also suggest you checking different Lexus dealership, as price also varies from Lexus dealerships to dealerships. I would refer you to the Lexus manual to see what exactly is done at the 30K. Most is probably just inspection, but I think it's more than a oil change, tire rotations, and filter replacement. I'm at approx 20K with mine, but did call around for prices for 30K, they vary from $300-500 (Chicagoland area). You really have see if the work is identical at different dealerships. Most of the dealerships usually have a brochure on the list of services at different milage/interval.
Good luck
