Has anyone been able to upgrade the stereo (head unit) on an RX300? I'm ready to buy the RX, but have converted all mobile music to Minidiscs 2 years ago, and don't want to have to trash everything and start over again with cassettes or CDs. Why does Lexus have to make their stereo setup proprietary so that you can't change it out for something of your preference? Even Mercedes doesn't do that. Appreciate any comments and apologies in advance if this was previously covered. If it was, please point me in the right direction.

The trick is to find someone really good at doing this, and that will cost $$$. We just had the head unit changed out on my sons '97 Avalon, and the installer said that Toyota and others are making it harder and harder to change things out, but are offering more and more. I do wish they would replace the cassette with a Minidisc or Compact Flash slot.Go to an upscale place and talk a lot with the person that is actually going to do the work. Good luck!
