Major front exhaust noise
Wife pulls up into driveway yesterday and my 1999 Rx sounds like a 1972 Ford Pinto who has no exhaust...
Had a look underneath and seams like the pipe coming from exhaust manifold which connects to the front (resonator type) pipe.
Does not seam loud at idle but when you rev,... wow..
What are the thoughts on what cause is...
Car has 112,000 km (69000 mi)
Any hidden warranties on exhaust components.
In service date of vehicle is October 31, 1998
BTW I hope this is not indicative of the quality of vehicle I purchased as my 1993 Pathfinder had the original exhaust when I traded it in 2 years ago with 240,000 km.
Thanks for anticipated reponses,
Fern

Out of Warranty
While Lexus has a pretty solid warranty, it probably ended some time ago on a vehicle that has been in service for over 6.5 years. Your problem, however, is not unknown. Based on the experience of others here, I suspect that the flex coupling between sections of the exhaust pipe located beneath the front footwells has let go.
The Lexus part is (naturally) pretty expensive, but a good muffler shop may be able to weld up the leak if there is solid metal around it, and I seem to remember that the repair is much cheaper than a replacement. Try a search on "exhaust noise" and see how others have handled this situation, my memory is a little vague here.
Good luck!

Lexus had a replacement section for that part of pipe. I do not remember from previous discussions that you could get it replaced under warranty (or that I remember people were having a hard time convincing Lexus to replace it after the 4 year/50K warranty).
It is a poorly designed part and broke down here in Mexico. Ended up welding it shut with some extra metal and Lexus said nothing to me on my last visit.
The newer piece is very flexible.
I cannot remember what post but there were pictures.

noise problem resolved
Thanks to all for the responses...
Just got back from Richmondhill Lexus and they say the Gasket under the spring loaded bolts that connect the cat to the front pipe was burned out..
Gasket price $33+ $55 labour + Lexus creativity in invoicing = $100.74 Canadian
Tech showed me the gasket looks like some sort of plastic connical thing impregnated with some sort of asbestos...
They also told me one of the exhaust manifolds had a minor crack but I would not notice it.
There estimated cost for replacement of the driver's side (?) manifold and o2 sensor $914.00 +
Driver's side manifold... The engine is positioned so the manifolds face the rad and firewall, what the heck is the driver's side manifold...? Anyway, when I get a chance having an exhaust shop see if they can find leak and weld shut.
Important thing is no noise.
