Default Fog lights with just parking lights on

Anyone know if it is easy to enable the fog lights to work with just the parking lights enabled. I want them to be able to be used if power is applied to the parking lights. That way they work independently of the high or low beams power and the low beams woudl not be required to turn on the fog lights. I suppose it is just a matter of tapping the power for the fog relay into the parking light power line....anyone do this yet? easy to do or a royal pain?

Legal requirement is that fog lamps turn on when "low beam" is on. Risk is failing annual inspection, or worse still .... potentially making it unsafe for driving in fog.

Sure it can be hot wired if you have the wiring diagram or a kind soul posts it for you.

We did this mod to the IS 300 at our club meet yesterday. I am sure there is a way to do this.

Dodge Rams & Dakotas are able to do this as stock, so it must be legal??

My 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 (company car) allows you to run the fog lights with just the parking lights on as well. Don't know why, but all of the Toyotas I have owed previously (incl. the Supra TT that we still have), require the low beams to be on, prior to turning on the fog lights. Same setup as the RX330. Yes, with some re-wiring, you can override this "feature". Haven't bothered to try this on the RX330, but I do find myself running just the fog lights with the parking lights on in the Jeep, when dusk is approaching, or during a light rain. It would be interesting to find out why Lexus (and Toyota) is so conservative in their stance in this matter.

If you want ALL light bulbs to turn on and light up the road a little more, go ahead and by pass the safety system.....

But..

Fog lights have a different spread pattern (low, wide and penetrating). High beam is set to shine the light higher and focus much further on the road. With foggy conditions, due to moisture, the high beam patterns reflects a good portion of light back into the driver's eyes.

So the two cases ... using fog-lights under fog and using high beam in fog are mutually exlusive cases. I have added fog lights to cars and installation instructions clearly state that fog lights must be wired to operate with Low-Beam (parking lights should be OK too).

If the lights are termed as "auxillary" lights or off road lights. then they can operate with high beam on.

This is the rationale ... you are welcome to disagree.
