Default Navigation system unlock

I recently purchased a 2015 RX 350 CPO with NAV. If I had paid better attention to the electronics I probably would have gone with another manufacturer - the Lexus electronics are really pathetic. Being able to provide input to the GPS while driving is something that even the most rudimentary systems do. VAIS Technology makes a NAV unlock system for about $175 and I have a call into a dealer inquiring about the installation cost. Any experience with the VAIS system or have any opinions about competing devices?

phlorida you can use voice controls to enter a destination. But not being able to manually enter destinations while driving is standard for Lexus.

There's a few threads on alternative nav override devices, including Prestigious Society and Beatsonic. Beatsonic is also a CL sponsor so you can PM them for more information. Install doesn't look too bad. I'm not familiar with the VAIS system. But I did have their iPod adapter in the RX330. It was solid.

Thanks for that Anita. Apparently I only searched the RX 350 Gen 3 section of the forum.

Going to the dealer and asking to install a device that circumvents a "security" feature is like walking up to a cop on a street and asking to open a beer bottle. You may wanna DIY this one.

My query is to a VAIS dealer, not a Lexus dealer.

Check with a few installers. The one who did the VAIS iPod adapter was familiar with their products. In fact he was the one who recommended them. Based on the Beatsonic thread, most of the work seems to involve removing the various panels. If you're comfortable with doing that, installing the VAIS unit would probably not involve much more work. I'm assuming the products are similar.

I don't see myself taking the dash apart. The VAIA installer hasn't responded and the Beatsonic installer is much closer so I'll try them next. Thanks again!

Yeah, removing all of those dash panels looks scary. But so is watching someone else do it. It's probably best not to be around during installation, LOL!

That's too bad about the VAIS installer. You can shoot a PM to Beatsonic since they're a sponsor here. Good luck.
