Default 2013 GX460 vs. 2015 RX450h

GX has executive option with 38K miles on the clock, RX is basic, Sports design 17K miles. Both vehicles are in very good to excellent condition overall. I own the RX. Thinking about trading because I need more capable off road vehicle. Your thought?, TIA. GX is at my Lexus dealer I'd try to get CPO on it.

Why do you feel you need ^this?
My initial thought is that you likely don't need more 4x4 capability. The GX is a bigger, better, badder machine and usually a pile more money. Come to terms with why you REALLY want that and see if the price tag justifies it.

The GX is a great vehicle. I have several friends that own them. One shipped his to the PI for his mom, and 4wd is awesome. But as colangus stated, it costs more. I personally hate the barn door, and Toyota has not invested any tech into the motor so it's gas mileage is horrible. Personally, you are comparing 2 very different platforms. The rx450 is a bit more refined, and gas mileage twice that of the GX. The RX is basically a street car. If you truly need a4x4 with ground clearance, get the GX. This is a path you must choose yourself...

I had the previous gen GX. It was an awesome vehicle, but it couldn't get out of its own way and gas mileage never went over 14.7. When I drove it over stress 10 years, I stepped down...or is it up to an RX and it has done everything the GX could do, besides haul heavier Home Depot stuff. A couple of friends bought the latest gen Tundras and I was actually really surprised at how luxurious, comfortable and easy to drive they are. The 5.7 v8 kills the GX and gets the same mileage. I get that some don't like trucks, but this is a huge oversight on Toyotas part. I'd personally go Tundra all day and not worry about scuffing things up. If you want RX mileage, than an F150 with EcoBoost, but still somewhat unproven. Not as reliable as Toyota, but nothing is, but not bad either.

The other possibility may be a 4RUNNER, which gets surprisingly good mileage for its size, though there's the power issue again!

Thanks for the heads up. I own a cabin in the wilderness of foothills. Once in a while I could use real 4X4 type vehicle to go out to hidden fishing holes or head out to Rockies' forestry road.. Today I took wife to let her take a look at the GX and she said no. Her number one objection was barn door style tail gate. SWMBO rules, I didn't even try to persuade her. If I need a vehicle to go off road, I'll trade my RX for daughter's brand new 4 Runner once in a while. (This was my back up plan) Thank you all again.

I've been going back and forth between the 4Runner and GX. The barn door is a deal-breaker on the GX.
I get it, the spare in Australia does not fit under the floor of the Landcruiser Prado (Toyota's twin), but really?
They didn't even bother making the rear door RHD and left it as-is, destined for LHD market.
We would not be able to open the door inside the garage and do a simple task of moving groceries without closing and reopening it every time.
My wife said to the GX - absolutely no as well. She hasn't been too keen on the 4Runner, but over time, and many remarks on my side, she's been warming up to the idea.
One big argument for the 4Runner, it costs half to operate compared to the Lexus.

My main reason for replacing the RX? I tried to do a donut in it yesterday after it started snowing.
This is a wrong-wheel-drive platform for anything remotely fun. I want a vehicle I can feel and drive, not one that drives me.
I want to be able to lay on it in the snow and it'll go instead of slipping front tires (I am on snow tires).

My S4 is a freaking blast in this weather! A reminder that cars can be fun.

Regarding S4, my son's summer car is M235i, good bang for the buck fun car to drive. In winter he slows down with 328iX. Both have stick shift. With next gen. GX , hope all comes out wish it'll have swing up tail gate.

Stick shift FTW! I got one of the last S4s made manual. They are no more.

Assuming there is 3GX. Same goes for the 4Runner. I'm sure many execs at Toyota are eager to follow the trend and kill both in the name of fuel economy.
I've been keeping a close eye on those two. 2017 should have been a 6th gen for the 4Runner and 3rd gen for the GX.
Toyota only posted 2017 4Runner specs and updated the website at the very end of December, which is really odd.
I managed to download the specs in Sept, which were available on the pressroom site for only a few days before being taken down.
No new info is available for 2018. There should have been mules spotted running round by now.
The only thing that has any insight is Toyota's deployment of latest safety tech across the board, except the 4Runner and GX.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the 6 gen 4Runner!
If not, I'll be ready to pull the trigger on the 2017 4Runner Limited the moment its demise is announced.
Limited has 4WD and full-time AWD, all in one package.

P.S.
Tacoma in the TRD Pro version is looking so sweet. And comes with a stick!
If I had money to spare, I'd buy one as a toy.

.
The barn doors have never been an issue with the GX since it also has a rear flip up window, which you can easily get groceries out of.
