Is an Alarm/Security System Needed for a 2014 RX450h?
Hello, I am curious if an alarm system, or additional security system needed to be installed in my 2014 RX450h? And, if so, recommendations?
The 2014 does not have the option for the RES+ mobile system.

Depends on your exposure. RX has an adequate alarm and anti-theft system out of the box.
However, if you lived, say in NYC, you may would have wanted to fortify your security.
Overseas, that would be mandatory.

The only protection I am aware of, is if someone gets a door open without having the fob. It sounds the horn, and I assume immobilizes the vehicle. But, if someone breaks the windows, is there a shock sensor and/or glass breakage sensor, on my car?

you purchase the glass breakage sensor separately. i was thinking about getting it.

You are correct. If any door or hood are open, the vehicle will sound the alarm. There is no shock sensor.
Older Toyotas used to offer glass breakage sensor option, but I don't believe that longer being the case.
Vehicle Immobilizer is separate from the alarm system. Although, smart key system now controls both, allowing for alarm to disengage and vehicle be started.
If the battery in your remote dies, turning mechanical key in the key lock will open the door and disable the alarm at the same time.
Holding the fob next to the start button will disengage the immobilizer system via RFID read.

IIRC parts cost around $300. Add maybe another $200-300 for installation. It involves taking apart the glove compartment. DIY is possible except for programming. Mine was a port install for about $300 on a special order '10 450h. I can't say whether GBS will work on a '14 though. It's not listed in the brochure.
One other thing worth mentioning, with Enform subscription, the RXh can be located if stolen. I also had LoJack Early Warning where I'd get phone calls within 10 minutes of the 450h being moved without the special remote. The advantage with LoJack is getting notified within ten minutes from it happening. But it's pricey at about $1,000. BTW, there's more information about RES+ here.

One could simply add an aftermarket glass break sensor for $15:

Wire it on the hood trigger. Optionally, add a relay to cut the trigger wire when the vehicle is started.
No programming is necessary.

What is the theft rate on these vehicles? Or the vandalism or break in with thefts from inside the vehicle? I bet it is very low compared to other vehicles. There are probably other easier cars to steal.

Their are more cases of stealing the contents in the car, as opposed to stealing. I have a special concern for an item I keep in my RX. And, the more expensive the toy, the more expensive the other toys you may have inside. A thought
