5.5 Quarts of oil fills mine?

Just a thought.
The oil filter housing holds about a half of quart of oil when the engine is cold, so the cold 5.5 quart measurement maybe a correct level for the oil pan since the oil filter housing does hold some oil.
When the engine is running the oil from the oil filter housing flows in to the engine and pan.
When the engine is recently stopped then the oil level in the most accurate.
To make it simple I would just go by the dipstick as well.
My RX oil level is good with about 6 quarts per the dipstick.
I also agree that the 6.4 quarts listed is not correct.
I believe that 5.75 quarts is more accurate.
I just add 6quarts(actually a little less since I do have some oil left in the container so maybe 5.9quarts) to be safe since an extra .25 of quarts of oil will not cause any issues I believe.
But you are correct, we should only add about 5.5 to 6 quarts of oil in the RX not 6.4 quarts in my opinion based on the dipstick reading.
FYI, not to insult you but did you wipe the dipstick after you looked at it with cold factory fill and rechecked the oil level again?
I was taught to pull the dipstick and wipe it and re-insert the dipstick then check again and go by the second reading.
Reading dipsticks is not the most accurate way of checking oil sometimes due to some dipsticks being very hard to read correctly.

To be honest, unless you have plan to drive on a 45+ degree gradient anytime soon, the majority of driving a half quart above full is not going to ruin anything. The real damage occurs when your overfilled, and you somehow change the angle of pan in such a way that your artificially raising the level of the oil, or somebody adds 1.5+ qts or more in the motor oil qty to result in froth.
In regards to the dipstick etc, Oil qty is usually specified in the manual, for an oil change with filter and without filter. This measurement can be measured 5 minutes after the engine has been run and the vehicle turned off on a level surface or can be measured after sitting on a level surface overnight cold. Measuring it twice, three times is a matter of personal preference. I can get the same reading on all accounts on every vehicle. The only time I need to do it twice is when removing the dipstick, i touch the sides of the tube and oil gets smeared on top of the dipstick.

Enjoy the beast. things like what type of oil, qty (unless supremely overfilled) are plain waste of time (personal experience lol)
