Please let us know what your dealer says, because in my experience, the dealer usually claims the raining sensing wipers are "operating as designed" and are going to try and blame it on user error.

THIS. Had them on mini cooper and hated them. Haven't tried them on rX350 yet but I am sure they are equally irritating.

I bought my new RX350 in January of this year, and the auto wipers never worked right. We had a short spring and a dry summer so I didn't bother until this fall when the rains returned. My wipers when set to the most sensitive position wouldn't even work most of the time. If I tapped on the sensor box on the inside of the windshield the wipers would switch to "high" speed. Took it to the dealer, they diagnosed the problem as "replace the entire windshield and the sensor". Yep they replaced the entire windshield. They said if perhaps there was even a small imperfection in the glass the auto wipers may not work correctly.

So after a new windshield and sensor, they work as designed. Ok most of the time, but I would still prefer regular intermittent wipers.

this is an example of, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
the regular intermittent wipers is so much better.
the difference is night and day, and it's a SAFETY issue.
who wants to put their lives on the line for an " auto sensing wiper"

If you need them and they aren't turning on, why wouldn't you just push the switch yourself? I would never put my life on the line waiting for them to activate when I could always just push the lever myself.

Agreed. They seem to work fine for me. They aren't always perfect, but 98% of the time they are fine and I just activate them myself if necessary. I like the fact that they adjust to the degree of rain by themselves. Its too bad this isn't an option separate from a package, so it can either be selected or deselected as desired.
