BSM Blind Spot Monitor
Today I was driving on the freeway. I'm usually in the fast lane but today I moved to the slow lane to let a faster driver go by.
I noticed the BSM didn't activate until the vehicle passing me was passed my rear bumper on the left side.
Anyone else notice this? Luckily I keep my mirrors adjusted so I don't have any blind spots.

The front of the car on the left was actually closer to my wheel well. I wonder if it has to do with the speed of the other car. If it's passing you at 15 mph faster than you are travelling, maybe the system can't respond that quick.
I don't notice this issue with the right side BSM.
Thanks for that diagram. You are a wealth of information here on this forum.

You're welcome. Glad to help.
You might be right about the speed difference. Next time as a test, notice the timing of the BSM alert when a car passes by at a much lower speed difference. I would expect you notice the car further back much like the diagram shows.
But in the end, as you mentioned, it should never be a replacement for human visual confirmation.
