Question regarding 2010 vs 2008/09 riding experience
We are looking into getting our first Lexus, looking to get into a RX 350. We have been looking at the 08/09s that is within our price point but happen to find a 2010 right at the highest price point we could do. We checked out the 2010 last night and it looks and feels great. The driver seat feels a tiny bit more roomier then the previous years but not 100% sure about that. Anyway, reading up on the 2010s, Iv come across a few complaints about the ride being less smooth then the 08/09s. Our family takes a lot of long trips each year to our families down south, about 700+ miles each way. Just wanted to know from you guys your thoughts on the over all ride of the 2010 vs the 08/09s.
I should also mention that we are kind of in a rush to get a new car, our previous vehicle was totaled when a parking garage flooded from a burst pipe. We have about a week left to decide on what to get. Thanks for any input.

I've had my 2010 now for a year and a half. It has the 19" wheels. I came from a ES350. The RX certainly does not drive as smooth as the ES, but I find it quite comfortable and very solid. To me it's a great traveling vehicle. I've driven the earlier model RX and didn't find it any better riding than the 2010. However, ride comfort is a very subjective thing. If the car you are interested in has the 18" wheels (5 spoke wheels) the ride will be a little smoother than the 19" wheels (7 spoke wheel). The larger the wheel the more you'll feel bumps. Also, the tires make a difference. I have the Michelin Latitudes and find them to be great. Good Luck

No, I don't play soccer!
ocp, welcome to CL. Sorry to hear about your previous car. Have you looked at this thread? I know on the surface it appears that I'm trying to talk you out of getting the '10. But it's worth reading through for the comments. It's one of our biggest thread on the topic of ride. Take a look at the tire brand and rim size like MDames2 mentioned. I'd suggest driving an RX with both the 18" and 19" tires. You might like one over the other.
Other things worth mentioning, the cabin feels more cavernous in the '10. The seats are roomier, you're right about that. The previous gen RX is more on the snug side. It's not necessarily a bad thing but maybe you prefer the extra space. The seats also adjust a million different ways. Getting comfortable is not difficult. The '10 will offer features not found on the '08 and '09. I'd consider that as well.
It's a tough choice but no doubt you'll make the right decision. Good luck!

The 2010 is in fact bigger in all dimensions and feels even bigger inside. The cargo area seems to have better cargo space with the different rear suspension. I have 19 inch rims on my 2011 and find the ride a little hard over rough roads and highway expansion joints. Of course the electronics are in general better including the stereo. I've heard that later model year production 2010's have heavier, better sound insulating glass than earlier ones. Thanks. Regards. Ned.
