Default RX HID Headlight vs LED Headlight

I am not sure if there is already a thread on this but what are the pros and cons of HID versus LED headlights? Is one better and brighter than the other?

I have had HID's and now have LED in my RX450 and they are awsome for low beams. The LED have no ballasts to wear out and the bulbs last a really long time. They are now becoming the standard on high end cars. Audi even had a superbowl commercial about them.

So does HID have any advantage over LED?

I've had both. The LEDs are weaker on low beam. It's part of the reason I've changed out my fog lights so much, LOL! But looks-wise, LEDs win hands down.

HIDs are included in the comfort package, LEDs an $1,800 option. My sales guy deducted a little more than $700 since I went with the LEDs. The replacement cost of the entire headlight will likely be much more though. I don't have a clue about the bulb prices.

HID are more functional coz they have more lumens/light output, LED are for looking good.

if malfunctioned after warranty, the LEDs will be extremely costly to replace. That said, the LED bulbs will probably last the lifetime of the vehicle while the HIDs (while still have a long life cycle) technically will last not as long.

if you're the vehicle behind me or directly infront, i would prefer you NOT having LED.
some after market LED installed appear as HIGH beam already even though that's not the case.

I think you mean HID not LED. I am not aware of any aftermarket LED light set ups as of yet. It is true that lots of people who put in their own HID kits dont have them aimed well and as they tend to be a much whiter light it appears that they have their brights on.

These are normally installed in 10 year old Honda Civics and Acuras and big pick up trucks and are driven by 19 year old boys in my experience.

LEDs also last much longer and draw less.

This is not about aftermarket LEDs. This about the OEM LED headlights.

Thanks for all the comparison feedback between OEM HID and LED. Understand LED lifespan is significantly longer than HID, what is the OEM repair/replacement cost comparison between the two?

i think putting a led bulb in a headlight is useless. well thats if you do night time or dark driving. led bulb in a normal headlight should not be confused with a led headlight. led headlight is designed to be super bright and is a special designed projector for the led. hids are easier because all you have to do is PnP to get a good effect where as leds in the same housing will not have throw making it dangerous for you
