Vizualogic DVD Headrest Installation - Full Writeup
#31
IMO a 9" screen is too big for the RX. Aside from getting the feeling of sitting too close to the t.v., the hedrests look disproportionate. What size is the screen on the factory installed ones anyway?

I think the OEM RSES screens are 7"....I can measure when I get home.

So I got my dvd screens last week and installed them this afternoon. Overall things went smooth but there were a few hiccups. Some perhaps because my RX is a 2009 and other an odd component choice by the manufacturer.
Before shot...
Driver seat back removed, exact same procedure as GregDallas explained.
Both seat backs removed
Issue number one, there is isn't or I missed a 12v switched power source in either seat. I saw a similar cable bundle with the red wire as Greg but that didn't provide constant power or switched 12v. I opened another cable bundle and saw a pink cable, and same issue no power there. So I brought the passenger power cable over to the driver side and ran a single run along the driver seat all the way to front fuse panel.
Similar to the OP, the look ma no wires shot
Lastly, the finished product. Pond Hockey for Dad and Bee The Movie for my daughter.
My other issue is about the product design. Each monitor as an input and output, the theory being you can connect them together to play the same DVD on both screens. The problem is the included cables for this are both female. I guess this is to add another permanent source, but I'd imagine most people are going to want to connect the players together. Plus there is another input on the screen itself for connecting a different source. It's hard to tell from this shot but those RCA plugs with the caps on them are inputs and outputs from each monitor. IMO one side should be female so you can connect them.
Therefore, I'll need to buy 3 RCA couplers to finalize the install.

These are the units I bought, half the price of similar Vizualogic and I believe a quarter of the factory cost.

I'll be installing the same two DVD headrests as the others have shown in a 2004 RX 330. I'm going to attempt to tap into 12V ACC power by using the fuse panel on the driver's side of the vehicle. I have a few questions if anyone can help:
1) Will the No. 62 ECU-ACC 7.5AMP fuse that's tied to the NAV display, power rear view mirror, shift lock control, and multiplex comm system be suitable as a power source?
2) Will the bolt pictured below be a suitable ground? I'm not sure what the white wires behind the bolt are, but I assumed it was a ground. If this will not work, any suggestions?
Thanks for the help!

Below is a picture of the passenger side finished product. A note to those who do this in the future, do not leave your detached seat backs in direct sunlight. Neither myself nor the Lexus dealership could get the driver side seat back to re-install!

It's been almost 2 years now and ours are still working fine. My son broke one of the headphones (they are cheaply made) but I bought another pair off Amazon for 25 bucks or so. Other than that, no issues.

Awesome post. This is what I miss from moving to Lexus from Nissan/Infiniti. When I had my infi, you can find step by step photos, even videos doing most of the repairs/jobs/mods with a google search. I guess most folks driving 50K lexus aren't going to be dIY I guess. I hope more and more Nissan/Infi folks move to Lexus and make the Lexus community more diy friendly I will get started here soon and install my RES and post some pics...Thanks!
