I put on my snow tires today and they dont have valve transmitters so the pressure warning light is on now. How can I turn the damn thing off? help please

there is a button under the steer column, right near the pedals. Push and hold the button for at least 3 seconds. the light will blink a few times and then turn off

Isn't that the pressure reset button for when you change tires/pressures? And as such, will the light not come back on immediately and stay on while it searches for info from the TPMS?

you can't, the us govt made it mandatory in the aftermath of the firestone issue. i put winters on and had the shop add the toyota tpms, the dealer activated them for $60. what i did notice is that if you store your originals in front of the vehicle, the light will go out.....but after driving for about 1/2 hour it will notice and light up again, until you park by them.... if you keep your trips short it never comes on....

Nope my car does not have those buttons under the steering column. Any other suggestions?

Billion and Dr p are right, you need those valve sensors. I believe any will do at a local tire shop.

That's what I thought. But I think the whole system is just redundant and a waste of the money. I"ll try to find a way to just deactivate the system. maybe through the fuse box.

haha, it's illegal to disable the TPMS!

a quick/easy/legal way to get rid of the tire light on the dash, is to get a little piece of the
black electrical tape, and tape over the indicator wallah!

The button is there. Its way under there between the floor light and gas pedal. The instruction shows a pic but it is deceaving. I had to look 3 times before I found it. If you get you head all the way up to the gas pedal then look up you will see the button.

yeah the button doesnt do anything in this case though, it was my mistake

I am picking up a 2010 RX 350 in several days. The dealer wants $3550 for a set of winter rims/tires and installation (with TPMS). I contacted another shop who will do the job (tires and non-Lexus rims but no TPMS) for $1500.

The dealer made it sound like I was taking my life in my hands doing this - and that only a Lexus dealer should use Lexus rims with TPMS activated, otherwise I might die in a car accident..

Questions:

1 - is this reasonable?
2 - if i install tires/rims (non-lexus) without the TPMS, will a light be shining on the dash in my face for 3 months? If so, how to deactivate it?

i can only answer number 1, all RXs here are sold completely without TPMS and its certainly not hazardous to one's health however we do get a full size spare. just check the tire pressure before you drive once awhile and you are fine.

The stealership always acts like you are going to blow the car up if you do anything without their blessing (which costs you an arm and a leg). I think cars have run without TPMS for, oh, about 95 or so years. Hey, maybe the federal government should make it a law to require TPMS on bicycles too. Wheel barrows could also use them. Man, the possibilities are endless!
