Talking In love with my new Lexus RX 330 is this normal?

I have owned many cars. This is the first one i got entirely on my own and my first lexus. Is a 2004 with 154k and looks and acts brand new! Clean carfax, only 2 owners and i got it $2600 underbook as comp to the nada retail. Compared to everything else i have driven this car is way more comfortable, sophisticated, fun, handles better (lika a dream) and i have been avg 24 mpg in town! Which means a lot because I deliver pizza. I am having a hard time thinking i will ever buy anything other then lexus now. My second favorite car was my 1st which was a 98 honda accord. Since then i have owned a string of problem child Chevys. I will never Chevy again. And one Dodge Grand Caravan 03 that i got for only $500. It got me around for a year but wasn't the prettiest thing to look at. It hit just about 250k and started having troubles. So i did my homework and went to a dealer that had some crv's. I was looking for cheap, reliable suv with 4 wheel drive and good gas mileage. Imagine my suprize when the bank favored the lexus over the others! It was rated just as high if not higher then the crv for dependability. I thought imediately that this was a close to $11k car and when i looked up the nada sure enough $10,700 was the sug retail. I got it for $8,100! What a steal. I just love it. The more i drive it the more i love it! I was wondering if this was normal for a 1st time lexus owner? I mean i thought cars were just cars. Of course test driving it sealed the deal on owning. But since then i have looked at car ownership in a whole new light.

welcome; and no this is not unusual. I originally had a 2011 acura rdx but we had to sell it because the payments were through the roof due to unfortunately crappy credit. I then went and started with lexus and Ive loved lexus ever since. I had a 99; but sadly; lexus had a very poor design for the first gen rx transmission and very poor reliability; and recently the trans started taking a dump on me at which point I went and looked at and snapped up my current rx a 2007 rx350 thats loaded out pretty well and get this its got less than 70,000 miles on it!!! which is nothing for a 2007. But I dont blame ya for loving the rx. They are great vehicles.

Welcome! This is very normal, you are entering the luxury world as I did when I traded my Highlander for my 330. Honda and Chevy's are basic cars, same as my fleet of Toyotas. But Lexus' are nice because the engine is very similar to Toyota if not exact and are very wrenchable for the backyard mechanic.

CONGRATS! I too am a new first-time Lexus owner and could not have been happier with my purchase (2006 RX400h, $7900 private party sale). The power and comfort are comparable to my Jag! And I'm averaging 26mpg city/highway.

Usually I keep my cars for 3-4 years. My next SUV will probably be another RX (450h).

Having had a miata, tercel, civic, corolla, rav4... I do like the extra room in the RX, for sure. and I love driving it, 13k on it, 11 months, but I have another car, and commute sometimes on two wheels.

24mpg? Holy Gassaver Batman!

What are you doing, driving downhill both ways? Best I can do in town is about 18 mpg with my awd 05 330.

me too!!! I wish i could get 24mpg!!!. I was thinking maybe my engine air filter was dirty and or the mass airflow sensor (maf) needed to be cleaned but I havent checked those. mine too at its best so far has gotten around 20-21mpg roughly.

I just had my filters and oil changed, along with water pump etc. MAF checked out great too so I'm not sure you'd see any better if you did the same. Mine's all city driving stop & go stuff.

Does that all make y'all wanna get a hybrid for your next car?
More power, mpg, etc.

I can't speak for Matt, but it doesn't affect me at all. Too much extra problems I've seen in threads on here and when that battery starts to go - whew! Expensive! But that's just me. I'd drive it if it were a company car and not my problem though

Nothing like another RX love story like VAttorney had with hers.

Congrats on your 330, Mariahpoo. It'll make driving this winter fun. Had a blast with my '04. Never stuck once. BTW, the excitement doesn't go away. Hasn't for me after 19 years. Enjoy your RX and welcome to CL.
