Battery Replacement With 9v Holding Power
Recently successfully replaced battery on my MBenz using a 9v battery
to save stored settings. Has anyone tried this technique?

I use a Battery Tender attaching the clips to the car battery's cables before loosening the battery cable clamps. Works perfectly, saving all settings. Just be sure to wrap each "connection" in tape to prevent inadvertently touching a ground. The 9V thing in the lighter probably won't work for cars where the lighter circuit is not powdered when the engine is off.

I tried the 9v battery thing the last time I changed the battery, and the 9v battery was drained before I completed the swap. My radio and seat memory settings were still intact, but I had to reset the windows and sunroof.
I have a Battery Tender and see now that I should have used that instead, as who has time for all those resets?

Just bought an '08 RX350 and new to the forum. I would like to swap out the battery with a newer Interstate I have on my Nissan Quest and have been researching all possible steps I should take so as not to lose codes and settings. This thread helps a lot. Aside from the 9V maintainer, I have a battery tender and also have access to a third 12V battery(from a third car) which I was thinking of attaching(with charging clips) before disconnecting the battery...to keep the current flowing. From what I read on this thread I am pretty much crossing off the 9V cig lighter option. I would appreciate your thoughts on which of the remaining two options (battery tender or spare battery) would be better (the same?). I never had any problem working on batteries restoring my classic collectors but these new models with the new electronics present a different complication. Thanks in advance for any tips/advice.

I just changed the battery on our 05 RX using a trickle charge battery tender that goes in via the cigarette lighter socket. The ignition (not engine) needs to be turned "on" for the socket, and I check for everything to be off except for the clock on the radio (which stays on).
Then I changed the battery, with no loss of anything.
