Brake Pads and Rotors suggestion - 2008 RX 350
hi,
I have to change the front and rear rotors/brake pads of 2008 Lexus RX 350. It has gone around 45k miles. My friend who is a mechanic is replacing it for $50, and I just need to get the parts.
1. Can someone suggest good rotors for both front and rear.
2. Is after market parts reliable? I see compatible parts in Amazon and Advance Auto Parts.
3. Do I have to buy any other parts like caliper etc?
Thanks in advance.

Why do you need new rotors? I am assuming they are still the original OEM and that you have never had the brakes changed previous. At worst they need to be turned, however, they should still be well within spec. Do the brakes pulse when applied?
You might be able to get by within just dropping a new set of pads in there. Shims should be OK to reuse and you just need to get some brake grease at the parts counter to apply between the shims and the pads.

Just wanted to add that when I replaced the rear pads at about 80K miles all I did to the rear rotors was to scuff them up a bit on both sides using a drill and a sanding disc just to break up any existing glaze. Have never had any notable pulsing while braking over the life of the RX.
Also wanted to add to make sure to apply some grease to the pins as well.

Just get new rotors from Sewell Lexus. $136 for 2. If you can't do it yourself, make sure you get rotors that will not warp on you again any time soon. Either get Lexus or Stop tech cross drilled and slotted from Rock Auto.
