The RX is Solid when Rear-ended at 60mph
Back in the day I always was wary of the lower crash rating for the 2005 RX330. It was to the point to where I could never feel comfortable sitting in the back no matter where I was going. Its rather ironic that I don't feel like that anymore now that it is declared a Total Loss by the at-fault Insurance company. Still, I'm grateful that I'm alive as well as my sister and girlfriend.
Long Story Short:
-Was taking my sister to Six Flags Magic Mountain for her 21st (turned a day before accident)
-Girlfriend was accompanying us as well
-Stopped in traffic and right when it picked up again, I hear the squeal of tires for 1.5s and glance and see a nice big truck coming at us at ~65mph
-Big old explosion and we are jetted forward 40ft, fortunate not to hit the cars ahead of us
-Airbags don't deploy but the sun visor shoots down at impact and I ran into it
-Lucky to not lose any body parts but was unfortunate to receive a nice diagonal cut over my left eye
-Other than that, everyone was ok with moderate to severe whiplash
-RX declared a total loss due to frame damage and ~$15k to repair
Anyway, I still can't believe we're still alive with only cuts/whiplash for me and whiplash for my sister and girlfriend. Its too bad the car was totaled since it was my mums and she isn't around anymore but we all looked at it as my mum protecting us one more time. Now to deal with Allstate and their crappy victim-to-insurance service...

65mpg? Omg glad everyone in the car is okay! I can only imagine how scary it must have been.
You should go see a chiropractor asap! Even tho you may not feel anything at the moment, it may become something serious later on. Maybe even consider a lawyer as this may have long term effects.
My friend got rear ended from a lady going 35mpg. His car ended getting pushed into the car in front of him. To this day he still needs to go to the doctor because of chronic back pain and this was over a year ago.

Crashes which are square to the vehicle, such as in the case here with eyezack87, usually turn out for the best when new vehicles are involved. It is the offset crashes we are now seeing the testing agencies perform which should a concern to us. Our vintage RX never went through some of these new tests, just these:

Glad to see that the engineering did its job in this case with eyezack87 and that everyone walked away. Now that several days have past, hopefully no one involved is suffering from any aches or pains. Cars can be replaced, family cannot.
Years ago an older Mazda 6 sacrifice themselves on the back bumper of my RX. Poked a hole in my bumper but that was about it. Lexus shop took care of the repairs. They hit me square on at about 15MPH while braking. I had been at a complete stop. They towed the Mazda away as it was completely undriveable with a busted radiator, crumpled front end and bent suspension with possibly frame damage. My seat back is fairly straight up so there is little gap to the headrest.
