Propriety System
Does anyone know if anyone has been able to get access to the propriety software that Toyota/Lexus used on the 2nd Gen RX's at all (i.e. 2004+). Wondering as my "fantasy thought" of the day would see that the original touch screen in my car (with Nav, GPS, Car Info, etc) could be replaced by something like a mini-iPAD or iPAD or Android tablet and controlled from these devices.
For example (and excuse the long intros and other dribble these videos have in them)
or
or (this one is cool with the motorised option)

I would say that for anything past or present from Toyota/Lexus that your chances are pretty much zero. Not in their interests. If they cannot make money on it they are not likely to do it. Recently, I have seen where Ford and GM are providing developers access to some of the code for their systems. So, perhaps something moving forward is not too much to ask.
On a separate but similar note, in the 2014 Lexus IS they will be offering subscription free traffic and weather. How that will be implement is yet to be seen. Perhaps with the upcoming shows we will see and hear more.
Finally, and back on topic, here is a past thread for your viewing:

Looks good but it would probably look quite ugly on my RX330 (I have the US released 2004 Lexus RX - I am in Australia so mine was released November 2003 in Australia) with the 16bit screen . I was more thinking replacing the existing car function & NAV to be running on a tablet. Move the functionality from the RX NAV touch screen to an iPAD/Android, rather from the iPAD/Android to the screen.
