Miniature Rear Bumper Mod
Tell me what you think by using the voting buttons. I wasn't sure, but after about 5 minutes it's really grown on me and I like it a lot

Snowman, see you drive a 2010 so 3rd gen. On all second gen's this part is normally black.
Wouldn't remove the tow bar in it's entirety, it does come in handy every so often. I have thought about removing the actually ball and putting it in the boot somewhere.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it looks tacky, but don't like it much. Just clutters what was a good thing already. And the tow bar doesn't help - I agree if you remove the ball and its attachment - you should just be left with a square socket that takes a nice little badge.

I don't think it looks bad. Just not really classy like Lexus. Just to me. I could see this look on an american suv though. Not bad, but just for me not for the RX.
PS: Big pat on the back? for this mod though. It's impressive. I never would have thought it up and from first glance it really in some ways looks like it belongs there.

The mod looks fine. Like Infinirx, it would never have occurred to me to do it. But, the combination of the mod and trailer hitch is way too busy. Pick one or the other.

My car came with the tow bar attached when I bought it. I don't think we had as many options in Australia than in the US. There was literally a choice of 2, being the Sports and Sports Luxury (the Sports Luxury having everything including the Nav, ML stereo, etc). I believe the tow bar would just be a certified Lexus / Toyota tow hitch.

Maybe it was standard in your part of the world. I know in Texas there are a lot of cars running around with the towing package that never had a tow hitch (like mine). The extra cooling just makes sense in extreme climates, lol, I don't have seat warmers either!

Let me clarify, I believe the tow hitch and the front bumper nudge bar were the only 2 options that you could have from factory. I bought mine second hand and it already had it installed (although not sure as of when). I have noticed that the tow hitch over in the US and the one here are very different in design and look.

Draco,
The ball and hitch are usually either bolted on to a cross member which is attached to the frame, or it has a slide out hitch attachment. If it is a slide out, you will see a metal bar running through the entire assembly with a stop pin you must pull to remove.
If it is a bolt on assembly, the bolts are located below the frame underneath the vehicle. Most bolts that size are 1 and 1/4 inch standard so make sure youhave either a large crescent wrench or wrench available. The whole tow package has a sturdy cross member that bolts around the frame and under the exhaust (see underneath the vehicle.
Hope that helps.

Aw, I understand now. Yes, our towbar separates easily by pulling the pin out. They sure hurt the shins if you walk into them when you don't notice them!
It is only used for pulling a garden trailer, so no heavy duty work there, although it is the Sports Luxury model, so probably be fine for more load.
Working overseas, so can't take any pictures right now.
