Default 2007 RX 350 braking problem

I have replaced the front OEM brake pads at a local automotive shop but it is taking harder push to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, dont know what is wrong as the local automotive guy is claiming that he has put in OEM brake pads and he also drove and felt that the brake pedal needs to be pushed harder to stop the vehicle, any suggestion or help will be appriciated.

I have not used any other pads, other than the OEMs.

When you put in new pads, it takes a bit to grind off and really face perfectly with the disc. To me the difference is noticeable but not substantial.

You can try washing the discs with CNC brake disc cleaner to remove any grease that might have made its way. It is much harder to get the oil out of the pad.

Ask your shop to show evidence that the pads are OEM.

One more related issue ... does the pedal seem soft/spongy? If you use your right foot to press down hard on the brake pedal, can you easily slide your left toe underneath the brake pedal [semi-scientific way to check]. This test will eliminate the hydraulic issues.

thanks guys for the reply , I am definite that the auto shop used OEM brake pads as I have known him for years, regarding the hydraulic issue - I will do the test today and let you all know but I dont think this is the case, I also checked the brake fluid level yesterday and it is at the max level.

Thanks Mandyfig , I had couple of others drive and check the brakes and they also felt the same and the automotive guy also agrees that it takes more pressure on the brake padel to stop the vehicle.

What kind of condition were the brakes in when you had them replaced? I find it hard to believe if oem pads were used and the rotors machined that you and your mechanic would be experiencing this problem. What salimshah said is true, and I would have to agree it would not be "that noticeable" diring the break in period. Are you positively sure your non dealer repair shop used OEM Lexus/toyota pads or did he use an aftermarket that claims to be as good or better then OEM. Most aftermarket parts shops offer three types of pads: economy, oem quality, and what they call their premium pad.

The brakes were 90% worn out as per the mechanic. I will again check with him for what kind of brake pads he used for the vehicle. Thanks again for all the tips and help.

Default Brakes

I took my 2007 RX 350 back to the dealer about two months after I picked it up. The brakes seem to need more pressure. I was told the newer RX's have a different material on the pads to make them quieter. And needed more pressure.

My 2001 RX had perfect brakes. All it needed was a little toe pressure to come to a full stop.

The OP was asking about the service brakes, not the parking brakes, in that 12 yr old thread......
