Default Problem With Power Door

I am wondering if anyone else has had issues with the rear power door. I don't know whether its due to weather but it hasn't been working properly lately. I live in Calgary and its VERY cold. (-10 F or -23 C) When I press the power door, it lifts up like it normally does but it acts like there's a restriction at the top and the trunk closes again without staying open. So, when I hold the powerdoor button on my remote, it beeps like normal and opens. Once it reaches maximum height, it immediately beeps again and closes slowly. When I try to manually open it, it feels really heavy and comes crashing down.
The car is an 09 RX 350 and 14 mths old. I just bought it as a certified preowned Lexus in Oct 09. Is this covered by warranty? I can't take it to the original dealership of purchase as I have imported it to Canada and must use our local Lexus dealership which will prob gouge me if I had to pay out of my own pockets.

Personally,I would not use the power option in those temps. just manually open/close untill the temps. warm up.

Even when I use manual though, the trunk will not stay open. It's weight just brings it crashing down.

Well, thats probably due to not enough pressure in the gas shocks to keep the door open. I notice a little of that even where i live during winter time.(the cold temps. where you live lower the pressure in the gas schock) Just for the heck of it,try opening your hood, and see if it stay`s up.(although on mine,it feels like the hood shock isnt affected as much for some reason)

So your saying the gas in the hydraulics might be effected by the cold whether?
ok thanks. I will try with the hood when I get home today!

That`s usually what it is when your dealing with very low temps. like you experience where you live.

I would also make sure there is no snow or ice caught up top there which will also cause the door to close. But you'd hear it if that was the problem.
